"Big Red" is HERE!!

Does anyone know if the Wifi is capable of transmitting data online for remote reads? It would be awesome to be able to leave the network and still access the cook data. I have a "Meater" which can do this via the cloud so the newly designed PID should have the ability.
Auber web site lists the Model WSD-1500H-W which I believe is very similar or identical states the following. "Access the device remotely. It allows you to check the temperature readings, or change settings from your smart phone at anytime from anywhere (yes, anywhere!) as long as you have cellular or Wi-Fi internet access. You’ll be able to monitor the device when you are not at home, or doing grocery shopping."

So, if I understand correctly upgrading to the new PID controller will give me 3 additional features. 1) easier control of PID via the app 2) Remote capability because of the app and 3) 2 Additional meat probes.

I am assuming the meat probes can just be used to monitor and don't have to be involved in the programing? Am I right in that?

Thanks

Doug - if you are cooking to an internal temp you need to tell the probe what temp you are shooting for. Probe #2 will talk to the controller, so if you want the smoker to drop to a keep warm setting it will do so. #3 if used for another item will just track the temperature and have no effect on the controller program such as going to a keep warm setting. Probe#1 of course is the smoker temp probe.

That sounds promising. Can anyone confirm this controller has the same functionality as the WSD-1500H-W?

The only detectable difference is that the 3 indicators for WiFi, alarm, etc are on the upper left of the SI panel rather than the lower left on the Auber.

I just wanted to make sure functionality regarding the app - wifi -cloud was the same since this is important in sealing my decision to buy a SI. Especially at close to double my wife approved budget.  :-X

Steve or Ben should be putting the instructions for the SI version of the controller on the site soon. I can tell you that when the controller first fires up it identifies as Smokin-it with the version. Have you downloaded the app yet and looked it over?  If you are anyways apprehensive you should give Steve a call or shoot him an email.

Thanks Sarge. Without connecting to a device (smoker) the app really doesn't tell you anything that would answer my question. I did email Steve and asked on FB but my question was not being interpreted correctly based on his replies. Anyway, I am going to assume they would not omit functionality available to the Auber equivalent and I just placed my 3DWifi order.

I don’t do much on WiFi or cloud activities. So going remote over a great distance like across town is truly alien to me.

I can confirm that the auber functionality is the same as the big red version. I bought one and have used it remotely without much issue. It has six steps you can program. Allows you to get red functionality with an auber upgrade of $250.

Steve emailed back and confirmed that the Big Red has the same functionality as the Auber WSD-1500H-W with remote control capability. I ordered my 3D and it delivers Thurday  ;D

One additional question on Big Red. If you set the PID at temp rather than a program, would Probe 2 just show temps like probe 3 then correct? So in effect I would have two temp probes that I could read remotely and control of the smoker. I most always cook at a set temp, not using programing.

Did you upgrade Dave?
