Dang-it!  I just posted the link for that to Jason! Day late and a dollar short.  Again. :-\

LOL. I was going to post in his orders thread, but figured it deserved its own thread.

It looks pretty cool and looks like a damn nice unit, but if I am going to drop that kind of dough in a smoker it's going to be a #4D.

I got the email from weber today, but I just now fell off my chair on the price!

What are they thinking!

Weber vs Egg ??

It should be $699 TOPS

I took a look at the new Weber. These guys must really be SMOKING SOMETHING! The reason that I own multiple grilling devices, is because they are all different animals and do different things. They are trying to pimp out their product to do EVERYTHING. The facts are simple, you can only cook so much food on a Weber. Adding charcoal for long cooks is a PITA. Indirect cooking is barely indirect and a hundred more limitations.....all that, and yet I love my Weber Kettle for what it does well! For quick cooks such as steaks, brats etc., you can't beat a Weber. For long slow cooks like ribs, pork steaks, half chickens, etc., a Weber aint worth a damn. They can sell a million of the new one's (and they probably will), but they won't sell one to me. Currently, I own a WSM and a Weber Performer (kettle) with table. They do their jobs well. Trying to create a "do all" monster just doesn't work in my mind. I'll always love my kettle and smoker, but I won't try to marry them to each other, which is what Weber is trying to do. OK, I'm done venting on Weber, as I just bought some nice Porterhouse Steaks to cook on my kettle this weekend. That's what I'm talkin about!

It sure is busy looking. Not sure the management group that took over Weber is making good decisions. Time will tell.

I agree with most of what you say but there are grills that multitask and do it very well. A Kamado is suited for that. My Kegs can get to over 1000° should you want that, they bake killer pizzas and sear steaks and can do VERY (longer than ANY other Kamado) long cooks on one full load of lump. There has never been a need to reload fuel in a keg. They are capable of running 50 hours straight on one full load of lump at 225°. So.......Weber could've knocked this out of the park but in the end, it's just a Kettle on steroids. I love kettles but not for THAT price. Time will tell how well it performs. You'll see people buy them just because, it's a status symbol. It'll be a great cooker but not what it could've been. Just my two cents worth!

It's all good Sarge! I saw it ;) I've been following this release closely and have read a ton about it over the last couple of weeks. I am disappointed in the pricing like everyone else is. I have a STRONG feeling they'll reduce the price but I don't expect it to be immediate. If they were to do it too soon, you're going to have a lot of angry early supporters feeling they got ripped a new one lol. They pretty much have to ride and die with this price for now. I'd say they'll give it a year and then lower it. I don't expect it to ever get to a reasonable price though. Maybe $200.00-$300.00 cheaper.

I would rather get a Ranch Kettle. But that will never happen. Happy/blessed to have what I have.

$1500??  Been a Weber fan for a long time, but no thanks to that! :o
Oh, by the way, that's the base version. If you want the goodies, it's closer to 2 large!!!

OMG.  My Dad and I had a conversation about this grill today.  He's cooked on a Weber since the 70's and is a Weber master.  He asked what it cost and I told him it would probably be in the 4-500 dollar range.  I was way off!  The price they are selling it for is insane.  I'm a grill junkie and I was thinking about getting this grill but no way Jose I'm paying that kinda cash for a kettle grill.

Well its double walled:)

I want to look at one in person, but personally its double what it should be in cost at least!

I don't think Weber-Stephen would have come up with this on their own but BDT having bought up the majority of Weber it does not surprise me that an outrageously priced multi-purpose grill capitalizing on the Weber-Stephen reputation for quality and value was in their future.  Some lite reading:

Interesting article.

Weber has priced themselves out of my business.  I bought my Genesis 1100 in 1997, at Home Depot.  It's on serious life support, and it was time for a replacement.  I was prepared to replace it with another Weber.  The technology really hasn't changed in the last 19 years, but the price has more than doubled!  For a vanilla 3-burner Genesis, with a basic side burner, they wanted $800!  I looked for other options, and found the Home Depot version of the NexGrill 896.  It's stainless, with 6 main burners (15 yr warranty), a ceramic rotisserie burner, and a ceramic sear station side burner.  Cast iron grates.  It had all the features I was looking for, at the same price as the Weber!  Longevity is yet to be determined, but the grill went together very easy, seems to be very good quality components, and above all, works great!  Weber needs to get their act together, or competition like NexGrill will put them out of business.

You are correct that it's double walled, but insulated between that double wall by What??? AIR! While many talk about their ceramic grills, whether it's a BGE, Komado, etc., they are heavy and well insulated. They hold their heat unbelievably well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see that air insulation being able to accommodate the same or similar cooking methods of those other cookers. It may have the same shape, but not the same characteristics. As I write this, someone has gone out and purchased one and soon we'll be reading all about it. Weber lovers are all over, and I'm one of them, but sell me something that doesn't give me my money's worth and I become disgruntled. The reviews will be trickling in, just hide and watch:)
