Seasoning My 3 Right Now!

Just got my 3 yesterday at the National Wild Turkey Show in Nashville. Been waiting 7 months for this show. Felt like a kid on Christmas morn. I arrived at the Smokin It booth and they said can we help you. I looked right at the 3 and said with a kid grin, I'll take that one!
Just started seasoning it so in 4 hrs I'm golden. Can't wait to do my first cook. Not sure what it will be yet. Being VD weekend has things off a bit, but I'll let you know what I do and how it turns out.

I'm proud to be a member of the family.
Smoke on my Brothers and sisters!

Congratulations Paul. I like to see a man who knows what he wants and grabs it. Great purchase. Enjoy it and good luck. Lots of great info on getting started on here and moving forward. You got the best!

Nice job. I might suggest some baby back ribs. 5 hours no peeking, top shelf, your favorite rub, water pan, 2 oz of wood at 235.

Welcome to a great smoker and a very helpful forum. +1 on doing ribs for the first smoke. It is hard not to peek in on how they are doing but I do not think you will be disappointed.

Welcome from ND Paul!

I always recommend a Boston Butt. It is a very forgiving cut and hard to mess up. Plus it gives you a chance to really feel out your nee smoker.

I'm with Gregg on the Boston Butt. You will learn more about your smoker with a butt than with ribs imo. Anyway, welcome to a great community-you cannot go wrong either way.

Really?  It makes zero difference whats first. Just get started & go wherever your taste buds take you.  My first was chicken because the butt was brineing. I didnt loose any sleep.

Thanks for the support. What I'm going to do is chicken. I've posted what I'm doing in Chicken and other Birds All things fowl. So if you have any thoughts and suggestions, that would be great.

Thanks

I can't imagine dragging my #3 through a convention and out to the parking garage. Shipping was expensive but simple. Enjoy your SI.

Congrats, and welcome, Paul!  I'd have done the same thing, if Steve had done a show close to me!  I would have had no problem dragging a big box out of the Outdoor Show! ;)  Besides, you got to meet Steve and Rebecca!  Great folks.

Walt's right - doesn't matter what you smoke first, just smoke something!  I'm also partial to the Boston butt for a first smoke, but not the end of the world if it's #2 or 3!

Let us know how we can help!

Killjoy, that #3 was my smoker.  I emailed Steve to bring a #3 to the show for me but when I showed up to pick it up, he upsold me a #4!  That Steve is one slickster I tell you.

Yeah, I bet it was one heckuva "hard sell," once you saw that bad boy! ;)

If I was able to pick it up at a show and not have to pay for shipping, I would definitely get the #4 too.

Congrats on your purchase!

I don't know about that paidin. I have been in contact with Steve since July about Buying a Model 3 at the show. I was texting with him the week before and he said he only had 2-3 he could bring. So I told him I would be there first thing Friday morn to pick one up.  I was their before the show started. While I was buying mine another guy came by who said he emailed about buying one. Steve had them out in his trailer with his truck. We met him out in the parking lot and load them up. I asked him why he only brought 3. He said that's all there was, online was sold out. And he had someone else wanting the 3rd one. He told me all he had was the floor model now.

Anyway you got that big beauty of a 4. I checked it out at the show, that's a Real nice piece of smoking love right there.

no fair Killjoy!  He did not twist your arm for a #4 like he did me?!?  I am just joking anyways :D  How are you liking your #3?  My first cook was a ribeye roast

I would have loved to got the 4 paidin, but I don't have the funds for that one.

But getting at the show I saved $170 on shipping and got about $100 worth of free stuff. So I am very pleased with my 3.

I smoked chicken thighs. Was planning on ribs Saturday, but snow and ice coming in this afternoon. Then changing over to 100% rain all day Sat. So it's looking like Sunday then.
