Is Bella a bust?

I’m relatively new to my Mod 2 smoker, really haven’t used it that much as a hot smoker yet. I bought a Bella CSG at the same time as my smoker as a lot of what I do is cold smoked bacon. I wish I had used a different thought process to reach this decision, it’s smaller than I imagined it would be. 🤣 My issue at the moment is with “Bella”. I’m finding it very hard to manage the smoke and burn time. I always use a 50/50 blend of chips and pellets. I use Bear Mountain pellets and Western chips. I never have a problem with ignition, my problem is achieving quality smoke and consistent burn time. After the initial start up of full airflow and full vent, I typically cut the pump back to less than half and adjust the vent to about half. I get good smoke from the smoker vent, but I get much, much more from the Bella vent. This seems to be fairly consistent for 3 to 4 hours and then there’s a noticeable decrease of smoke from the smoker. At that point I start increasing air flow from the pump in order to maintain any smoke to the box. A full Bella burns down in about 6 hours. Every time I clean it (after every use), I find the smoke tube to be about 2/3 blocked with hard creosote/carbon build up, which I’m sure is the reason the smoke slows/stops after 3 or 4 hrs.

It might come down to trial and error till you get things dialed in. There are some youtube videos that might be of help.
