I'm Back!

I want to thank everyone who checked on me!  I've been missing in action for the last few weeks due to the flu that turned into a bad case of pneumonia, and a few days in the hospital.  During all of this, I also found out I have Type 2 Diabetes and high blood pressure!
So, the last couple of weeks have found me pretty much completely "off the grid" other than bare minimums.  Still recovering from the pneumonia, and adjusting to a whole new lifestyle!

I really appreciate everyone's concern, and just wanted to let everyone know the "new and improved" version of me is back in action!

Now... I need to focus on BBQ seasonings & sauces for diabetics!  All ideas are welcome!  I may even create a new section for it!

We can't do this without you, Tony.  Stay well.

I don't know if you're overweight, but if so, losing weight ( through healthy diet and exercise) should be your #1 task.  The weight loss itself often results in no longer being diabetic for individuals with type 2 diabetes.  This is backed up by current research.

Here's my version of a sugar free Carolina style mustard based sauce:

1/2 cup Yellow Mustard
4 tsp not-too-hot sauce (ie Frank's, Cholula)
2 Tbsp Onion Powder
6 Tbsp Sugar substitute (Splenda, Truvia, Swerve, or other. Just make sure it measures like sugar)
1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1/4 cup Reduced Sugar Ketchup
Salt and Pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Mix well. Simmer over low heat for about 8 minutes.

Glad your on the mend Tony.
As Jason said, I haven't been around lately myself but have no excused absence.  We appreciate you and all that you do!

I too have been away for a couple months, a busy time of year work-wise for me. So sadly I did not notice your absence, but certainly would have, and would have been concerned. Both of my brothers are Type 2, so far so good for me though. But obviously I am genetically disadvantaged. I will be interested to see how some of the sugar substitutes work out in rubs and sauces. I'm sure you are finding that there is a lot more to it than just sugar though. A section for diabetic techniques and recipes sounds like an interesting idea.

Tony, unless I'm looking at it wrong looks like you've been missing again for almost a month now,, I hope you are ok Brother.. Take care of yourself bud..

Anybody heard from Tony lately? Its been a while since I've seen his posts. He talked about some medical issues he was dealing with, and I hope he is ok.

I heard from Tony about 10 days ago.  He said he is fine but really busy. That said, I did not ask for any details.  Hopefully he will be back soon. And he expressed his gratitude for the concern. And that is all I know.

I messaged him on Facebook and have not heard back from him. I hope all is well. He's a great guy. I don't "know" him in person but I "know" him enough from interwebbing that he's a class act. Here's hoping that he's okay and will be back in action soon!

Jason - Taking Tony at his word that he is alright, I reckon he will be back at some point. And you are correct, Tony is a class act.

Nothing. In the mean time, carry on as he would do welcoming folks and offering help when needed.
