Wood weight

No pat answer as wood density and moisture content all have an impact on weight.  An inexpensive food scale, under $5 or a digital scale, around $20 is your best bet.  If you are winging it, a 2" X 2" X 1/2" chunk is approximately 2 oz.

I picked up this one on Amazon for $14.

Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale Multifunction Food Scale, 11 lb 5 kg, Silver, Stainless Steel (Batteries Included)

Works great and cheap.  Like other have mentioned, I like weighing the wood and keeping track of what I do so I can fine tune the tastes so what you like.  Being able to repeat results is what I am shooting for so measuring is a must.
