wood chip smoker box

Greetings, all.  Purchased a wood chip smoker box from a local retailer.  Was pleased to find it fit in the Smokin-It smoker box until I tried to shut the box.  Too tall.  Any concerns that there would be a gap as the lid will not close fully?  Thanks for your expertise.

Why do you need another wood smoker box? Is your stock one not working? You can buy replacement OEM boxes.

I would not want to use a box that does not allow my smoker door to not fully close. First, it could bend the door which would not allow a full seal of the door, and second, the smoke box that comes with your smoker has been designed to work with your smoker after much testing, so I am not understanding the desire for a different box.

I might be missing something in how I am interpreting your question. So, please correct me if/where I was not getting it.

Gregg, I believe he is talking about a chip box placed inside the OEM wood box.  Probably trying to use it in lieu of a chip screen.  SWB, I would not recommend this and not because the OEM box door doesn't close.  Two box floors will cut heat a lot and prevent a good smoke.  It is just too easy to lay a little foil in the bottom of the original box bottom.

Oh, I see what you are saying and I am guessing you are right. I still wouldn't bother with it.

If you don't want to buy the chip screen, you can find any perforated metal or even a piece of tin foil will work.

thank you for the input.  you are correct it is a smoker box purchased at Lowe's and tried to place it in the existing box and found it too tall.  Appreciate the other ideas to include some wood chips

Buy the chip screen, or put a sheet of foil (with some holes poked in it) in the bottom of the standard wood box. Those smoker boxes are usually designed for grills, not for smokers, which already have a "smoker box".

+1, Jeff.  Save the box for your grill.

Per many brilliant ideas I have had in my life, the way it played out in my mind was nowhere near how it played out in real life.  Good thing I bought 2 of them and tossed receipt.  Easy money for our local retailer.
Well, the brisket I started this morning may ease the pains.
