Looking back I wish I would have bought the # 3 instead of the two. Its still new in the box and I haven't even opened it yet because im  not home but depth of the number 3 is making me a bit jelious lol.

Well, you can always send it back (30 day no questions asked).  Talk it over with Steve next week and see what he says. The 3D is worth the shipping costs.

Will i end up paying shipping  back to him I assume? I just looked at the return  policy and I'll have to pay shipping  back to them. I understand  that because  it's my fault  for not researching  good enough.  My question  to everyone  is ,it will cost me 75 dollars shipping it back plus 144 $ more for the #3d. Do those of you that have the #3 feel it's worth 220$ for the added space of the #3 over the #2?

all I can tell you is I bought a 2 used it for 4 months and loved it!! then I bought a 3D. LOL.
I like the 3D as the temp holds rock steady. I don't think the D is a must although convenient.
although I have not had the 3 (meaning the standard 3) I think that is probably an acceptable unit as well.
the 2 did everything I wanted but the 3 has the space and 50% more heating element that I  needed

if budget allows only a 3,  I think it is acceptable as well.

Thanks guys yes the 3D is in my budget, if Steve will let me return  it I'll get the 3D.I wish I would have in the  first place. Usually  I research  thing to death,  but I didn't realize the 3 was deeper.i though  it was just taller.

Ok Steve said I could return it, of like to have the number 3D ready to use when I get home to Idaho were it will be delivered. I'm thinking about paying for the 3 now so it will ship right away, then when my #2 arives back there he will refund me. Am I crazy paying for the new one before I get credited for the return?.

Ok guys, I did it!! I just placed a order for the #3D ;D  and the 2D will go back tomorrow! Thanks for everyone's help!

Absolutely not.  You will be in possession of both smokers, and Steve will not.  When he is back in possession of the #2, and sees that is in condition to re-sell, he will be "made whole," and will issue a refund.  That's the only way I would do an exchange, too.  It's business, and you'd be surprised how many people don't hold up their end of the bargain!  Steve's as honest as they come, so I certainly wouldn't worry about getting your refund.

Oh I agree, I didn't mean to indicate he may not credit me. That's not what I meant at all.. I was thinking more along the lines of if something happened in shipping it was damaged It wouldn't be accepted for a return. I'm in the middle of a claim right now with FedEx from some ruined freight I shipped and its a nightmare, anyway I'm not worried about Steve crediting me at all...

I didn't think so, Laura, just wanted to share that.  We're always at the mercy of the shippers, so I know what you mean!

That is a great idea, buti don't think my husband would think so, I've been spending money like a wild woman on accessories for this thing lol.  :o
PS. I haven't even told him yet that I traded it back in for the 3D...  :P

Since we live so close, I'd be tempted to take it off your hands to have one at the lake place, but I have spent too much money on stuff for the lake place already this year that I better hold tight too. :) If I ever get one for the lake, I think I would just get another #3 anyway.
