I guess it's no secret that I am an avid Kamado user, more precisely, Broil King Keg (formerly Big Steel Keg/Bubba Keg). I am an Mod/Admin over at their forum, so that makes the SI forum my mistress I suppose, lol.
At any rate, we do something over there just about every month called a "Throwdown" where we all compete to see who can come up with the winning dish in whatever category is chosen. The winner gets to choose the next month's TD as well as get bragging rights and a custom member title. So, I'll go in and edit their title to "Throwdown Champ" and if they end up winning more, I'll change it to "2X Throwdown Champ" or 3X or whatever the case, you get the idea.
Basically, it looks like this!
Also, to make it interesting Broil King offers up $50 in accessories to the winner. Not a bad deal! Maybe Steve could be coerced into doing something similar ;D
The prize is just a bonus, not a deal breaker by any means. We did this for years before BK started offering up the prizes.
So, we pick a category to get going. We set a deadline for picture turn ins and then someone has to host. I can do it if you like as I have my own server that I can host pics on and link to them. We allow 3 pictures, one picture is of the selected item on the SI, one plated and the other is cook's choice. It can be another plated pic, another pic on the smoker, etc.
It remains anonymous until the voting ends. It's always fun to see what gets created! I know we are at a slight disadvantage as to what we can cook on these SIs as it IS a smoker and not a grill but that shouldn't mean we can't still do something like this. Maybe not a monthly thing but it's very doable.
There is normally a 3 week period to get the cooks done and then the voting runs for a week. Also, you'll see in my pic above, that we also have a Hero Of The Month that is voted on by our peers. It basically acknowledges those who have made contributions to the forum, been helpful in any way. They get a nice little shirt that says Keg Hero Of The Month on it with a logo of a Keg on the back. I wore it at "Kegtoberfest 2014" last year
