I've smoked in mine several times in torrential downpours for hours while I was asleep or away from home. I didn't have the fancy cup over the dial and I've never had a problem. It impressed the heck out of me as I remember the first time it happened, I thought damn, there goes my smoker.  But it didn't even bat an eye and kept on smoking and my food turned out perfect as always!

+1 on smoking in the rain. Put my maverick in a ziplock bag and cover the temp control knob with a coffee cup. No harm no foul. The electric plug I use is inside my house so no worries there. The 12 foot cord is a really nice feature.

I put my maverick in a bag also.  However, several times I did not and was also surprised that it wasn't effected either!

Looking through the comments it seems like some people are having the same issue with the 3 as I am having.  Really long smokes, 18+ hours, for the same size/type meat people are smoking in 12 hours.  I have verified the temp in the smoker in multiple locations with different probes.  Every smoke I have done has gone way over normal time.

The Maverick 733 transmitter(but not the receiver) claims that it is rain proof but not water tight. I have left my transmitter out in the rain without any problems.
