Vacuum Sealers Cabelas

Two quick ones for ya.

1.  Anyone have good or bad new about the Cabelas sealers?  They have a few to pick from and the replacement bags seem like a good price.  Machines range from $190 to $450

2.  Are Vac sealers too strong for rolls and bread?  I get stuff from wally world day old rack, burger, sausage, dogs.  I've been freezing in zip locks at the moment, but even those get frostbite after some time.

Cabelas has some of their vac sealers made by other manufacturers under the Cabelas label.  Weston and Vac Master which are industry known names have made sealers for Cabelas.  See this link for example regarding some of our fellow members opinions regarding Vac Master.  Regarding bread, a lot of the high end units have pulse control so you can seal to your desired level without squeezing the life out of stuff like bread.

I agree with Dave, get a unit with pulse control otherwise you will house your breads and not be able to pack anything with any significant amount of moisture in it.. I have a Vacmaster 260 and am very pleased with it.

I use ball half gallon and quart jars to vacuum. I got the food saver jar sealer and a Harbor Freight vacuum pump ($75 w/coupon) and that thing sucks down the jars in less than 5 seconds. I am sure this is not for everybody, but it sure works for me.

Good idea, for a small-volume "work around!"  I have that vac pump, but never thought of using it for sealing cans!  (Just A/C systems).  Way to think outside the box!

I just purchased the 15" commercial sealer, Cabelas brand and it seems to work great so far. No overheating and shut down on repeated seals like other models I have tried.

I have been using a FoodSaver Professional II that I got off eBay 10 years ago and it still works like new. Strong pump. Manual override and seal. After trying a few other department store brands this unit and accessories has been top notch. Bags are very good quality and stand up to boil-in-bag for reheating from frozen. My favorite feature is the mason jar adapter - I make up a gallon or more BBQ sauce at a time and vacuum seal in wide mouth mason jars. Refrigerated it lasts forever...well...at least until my next party! I always smoke way more than I need just so I can vacuum seal leftovers.

I'm with ya', Dana!  My Pro III is still as strong as ever.  They really messed-up by discontinuing the Pro line sealers, imo.  They fit well on the counter top (very small footprint), and work great.  Hope mine never dies!
