Using a water pan

Hi Guys— I do not have my SI smoker yet, will be picking one up after the first of the year when my model is back in stock. I have been lurking the forum and reading up. I had a lot of years with a Smokin Tex and it hit the dust. This looks real similar, probably a better value and has a better warranty.
One thing I see a lot here are folks using water pans. I had assumed these were probably pretty moist smokers, aren’t they? I had never given thought to a water pan previously as it just wasn’t needed. Do most of you feel the need for a water pan? These appear to seal up well. I am just wondering if I need to add that to my smoking. I had figured all would most likely be as it was with the ST....

It is a very moist smoker. I used to think it was necessary but seldom do it anymore. Try it both ways make up your own mind.

Part of BBQ is routine, part is ritual habits.
