Stumbled across this device called the SmokeMiester. The link to the video is long but I thought some of you might be interested, from a cold smoking point of view. Of course, you have perform surgery on whatever smoker or grill you want to use it on.  It is a series of still and live action.

Can you tell a lot about a smoker product by the quality of the smoker babe?

Did you love the part where they used lighter fluid to start the chips?

Have a look at my post on "Cold Smoking in a Hot Climate" (sorry, have not figured out links-maybe someone can enlighten me). No need for surgery, at least on our units, or even for drilling. The Smoke Daddy comes with all the hardware necessary except for a couple of cord hangers and a large hose clamp-five minute installation job. It also has an adjustable speed air pump which enables you to produce TBS pretty well. I cold smoke cheese in ambient temps of around 80-85 degrees without any ice or any melted cheese. The unit seems to be very well made of heavy gauge aluminium and I have not had any problems so far. Liked the idea of the aluminium pan ash catcher though-might have to make one of those.

I'm with you, Roger.  I think the Smoke Daddy "Big Kahuna" is the way to go.  $125, with the air pump, is pretty reasonable.  I seriously considered one of these for my old Weber gasser, before getting into SI!  Looks like a solid, well-designed unit.  I assume you run your tube down to the bottom of the box, so the smoke rises and fills it?  Or, do you just squirt it in the blow hole until it fills?  Curious...you didn't mention how far it goes in, in your original post on this.

And yes, Dave, I think you can judge the quality of the product by the "actors" in the Smokemeister video. ;)  (Sorry, Dave, hope they're not friends of yours).  Bet the lighter fluid smoke smells great. :o

I got a kick out of the music and the lighter fluid.  Not sure I would be happy with the amount and thickness of the smoke.

Smokedaddy I had heard about before. Seems to work very well.

No Tony, they are not friends of mine. There are a few more videos out there where the man is prompted to 'name the product' towards the end. It costs $119.95.  Seems there is no end to innovation, for better or worse.

Yeah, Dave, it's a hoot!  Just thought I'd make sure to add the disclaimer about the "friends" thing, although I knew better! ;)

Tony, I actually have two hoses and have tried it both ways. It does not seem to make too much difference-the box fills with smoke either way and then exits both the blow hole and the drainage hole.

I installed it on my number 1 Last year I posted it under mods and adj. by LTS the only change I have made is instead of the elbow I installed a "T" with a ball valve to release moisture (black rain) I just hit the valve once in a while through the smoke It`s pretty compact and does the job ( I hope the S M is still made in the  USA) hope this helps

Sounds good. The video needs some help.  That is a ton of smoke rolling out of that rascal; is that what you experience or do you get a thinner wispier smoke?

The Smokemeister works for me no electric ,clean up works like they say. Put in some pellets and let it go .I did buy a little brass brush from Lowes  . I have the Amazin 5x8 I use in my si#4 and For me The smoke is the same. you  can adj. the smoke on the S M with the top lid. As for starting the SM I use a propane torch Just like I do with the Amazin there is a screen that goes in the SM that keeps the pellets in place. At first I would Keep checking it thinking it would go out It never did. The owner was also very helpful I called left a message and he called back and answered my Questions. Hope this helps I really like this site so helpful.    Paul

Thanks Paul.  I may look into get this.  I have toyed with getting a smoke daddy for a couple of years for no apparent need, but just to have.  Doing that with the SM now.  Still don't need one, however...........

You only need one of these external smoke generators if you need to separate heat generation from smoke generation i.e. if you cold smoke in hot climates (or if you are really a control freak)
If you do need/want one of these I would suggest that you pay attention to the quality and to a lesser extent the quantity of the smoke that they produce.
