Southern Soul BBQ, was Wednesday lunch!

I am heading to Savannah for a few days for work and since I am driving I will make a stop in Saint Simons Island, GA.

For lunch I will be feasting at the Southern Soul BBQ, these guys started with $700.00 and a smoker. They have been featured on many shows and the bbq is excellent. My real problem is figuring out what in the heck to order, everything is tasty. But tomorrow sounds like it will be the burnt ends (chopped brisket tips on a bun) along with some fresh cut fries......

I will post a few photos.

I've read about them and saw them on BBQ Pitmasters. The one dude that looks like Chris Robinson of The Black Crows has a temper! lol

They claim to have the best Brunswick Stew around. I'd like to try it, I am somewhat of a Brunswick Stew snob, I have a recipe that I've tweaked over the years and have only shared it my brother and he can't even make it right :D

The best Brunswick Stew I have had (not an expert here) was in Darien GA, Skipper's Fish Camp. I thought it was so good I tried to recreate it, but failed......

Remember to get some pics of the place & food, Greg!  I'd love to see the joint!

Its a really cool place for a bbq, 1940's gas station that has been turned into a BBQ restaurant.

The staff is friendly and the food is great.

Photos tomorrow night!

My wife Lynn and I stopped in for lunch today and they were already packed at 11:30 (they open at 11:00)

For lunch I had the burnt ends (chopped brisket on a bun) with some fresh hand cut fries. Lynn had the pulled pork with the coleslaw. We both enjoyed our lunch, but I think the pulled pork was better. The fries were excellent and I would rate the coleslaw as just ok.

Overall a great lunch, if you are in the area, you should give it a go!

P.S. The staff is super friendly and the pit master was more than happy to show me the goods!

Greg

P.S. If you click on the photos, you will see a higher-res version.

Looks great Greg! That looks like a cool place to boot, I love it when gas stations get re purposed into restaurants. Gives it a cool vibe. Fox Bros. BBQ in Atlanta is like that as well as Fellini's Pizza.

I buddy of mine went to "The Shed" is Ocean Springs Mississippi and took some cool pics. That place is crazy! He said 'cue was really good as well. I like their story, the family that runs it seem real genuine. I watched their short lived reality show and liked it.
