Got my model #2 in yesterday. Unboxed and set up this morning, and being seasoned as I speak. I can't hardly wait at this point.

Excellent, find your local meat market and get some pork butt. Most forgiving for the inaugural smoke!

+1 on doing a Boston Butt for the inaugural smoke. Follow Divotmaker's Brining Recipe and you will be golden.

Congrats!! Like the others say... A pork butt is a great first smoke... but for me, it's the only smoke I've messed up so far. I've done 8 Briskets in 2 months with no issues, but I listened to a faulty temperature probe on a pork butt, when I knew it wasn't done, and screwed that up. So... my .02.... do a pork butt, but until you're comfortable with all of your equipment, go by feel. You'll know it's right by the feel of the meat.

Woo Hoo!!  It's just like Christmas, Jeff, except it lasts longer than a day! ;)

The gift that keeps on giving!

I second (or third?) the motion: Go with a Boston butt, nothing better!  It's become a staple around our place ... just picked up a 11+ pounder today, so that's going in over the weekend.

You made the right choice Jeff. Just make sure you're using a thermometer so you know when you're up to temp and of course don't forget to log back on here and post your pics. Welcome to the SI family and Happy smoking!

Welcome from Texas! We're glad you're here! Have to agree on the pork butt. Great tasting and long smoke really gets that smoker seasoned and ready for whatever you want to throw in it. Enjoy!

Hey Jeff welcome from Kansas City and enjoy the many wonderful meals that will come out of that #2. Like everyone else the BB are a great 1st smoke. Even though mine was a rack of ribs during the week. 2nd smoe was the butt on the weekend.
