Smoked peppers

Anyone try to smoke peppers like cayenne or jalapenos (chipotle)?  I don't have a jerky dryer at this time for the #2.  I have a ton of peppers from my garden in the freezer from this year and I wanted to dry some.  Thoughts?

I used a cheap dehydrator to dry a bunch of my peppers this year.  If you could get access to or borrow a dehydrator, maybe experiment with a small batch by smoking for a while and then finishing in a dehydrator.  It takes longer than you would think to dry them.
