Smoked mussels

I've successfully cooked oysters on a charcoal grill, but never smoked mussels.  I would think they would cook pretty fast, so you might want to preheat the smoker to get the smoke going before putting the mussels in.  I'd probably use a frogmat or something, too.  Good luck! Let us know how it turns out if you try it.

I've got a seafood rack that I'll use.  That should do the trick.

How long did you smoke your oysters?  That sounds good too!

I can't believe that no one has tried Smoked Mussels!  I guess I'll be a path finder!

I was cooking the oysters over charcoal, not smoking them, and just took them off when they opened.  It was a while ago, and I can't really remember how long they took, but it can't have been long.  Anxious to hear how you make out with the mussels.

Interesting article in the Washington Post today about smoking mussels and oysters. One thing to note, they need high temperatures to open, so most people pre cook them somehow to get them open, an then put them in the smoker.  Here's the link (hope this is ok to post):
