(SI3 + cart) & PID with chimney to range hood in garage

Well. Today finished last tweaks for winter setup. Installed hood and exhaust to outside (works great). Added cabinet for smoking supplies. Presently auto tuning Auber PID. NOTE will leave garage door ajar 2" for fresh air although likely not necessary. Initially one can smell smoke during the heavy smoke stages; however come the second hour there is no trace or smell of smoke which is very different compared to no exhaust hood.

Presently pork butt rubbed and waiting for an 18 hour marathon smoke to be ready Christmas Day. Optimistic better results in store this round.

Very nice setup.  I'm more impressed with your garage.  Mine is so full of stuff.  I don't have a bare wall in the garage, three lofts full of crap, and the floor is still a mess.

I need to get rid of some stuff.

how cool... my garage (lovingly called The Pineroom)is also finished, and  has its own meter service (200) run to it. no water out there yet though. i am slowly preparing for my wife to throw me out of the house...LOL....  I really like the idea of the hood and chimney. i may have to steal this idea.

Hi Steve:

That is a really cool set-up but I'm with rickne, I am really impressed with your garage!  You should see where I have to store my #2!

A suggestion, if I may, to really push your installation over the top (not that it isn't already):  Install a urinal on the wall next to the smoking area!  A urinal in my garage is something I have dreamed of for years.

The garage is attached.  Which explains why it's tidy as it's used mostly as a kids play area and a transition are for folks to hang out in the summer.

As for the urinal... Yah right my bed would then be in the shed.  :-\

Grew up loving the north... Four seasons snowmobiling skiing ice fishing... It's really kind of fun.

Have to agree come March the natives get restless.

I like this suggestion.  It's my first winter smoking and I was looking for an alternative to setting it outside in bad weather. Particularly since I use the Auber with each smoke. Does the vertical vent simply rest on the smoker or is it supported in some way?  Was considering setting up something like this in my garage.

Just a $10 aluminum double wall chimney vent from hardware store... Only need for first one hour of smoke when it's really heavy...then you can set it to the side and just let the fan pull air out. Not perfect... But it works well.

Neat set up, where east or west in PA are you?  Our new Gov might have to regulate that vent you put up.

Vented. To the outside... To get smoke out of garage.

In winter... Leave garage door open a foot for fresh air. Turn on ceiling fan to force lingering smoke / air out of garage. Hood tries to get as much smoke as possible out of garage direct. Duct I just rest on SI to guide smoke to vent. After 60 min... I close garage, turn off ceiling fan, put vent away, and let smoker run with just hood vent on.

This works well. In fact the first several steps aren't required... But I do them anywY to be safe. After the one hour mark... I go to sleep. 😉
