SI-3/3D carts no more?

I see the Norman and Stephanie carts are no longer listed on the website, as well as the covers for both smoker and cart. (For the 3/3D.)
Being newly registered to the forum, just wondering if I missed an announcement regarding this. Hope to talk with Steve this Saturday (6/9) to order a smoker, will try to remember to ask him about it as well.

I was wondering the same. I see people with 3D carts but I don't see them on the website. I also couldn't find the jerky cap.

In the past when an item was out of stock Steve just removed the item from the site rather than show it as sold out. Best advice is to shoot him an email.

Thanks David.
I hope to remember to ask him about it/them tomorrow. Not a deal breaker at all, just not at all sure of my woodworking skills for building a cart ;D (Guess I could work on something while smoking since I wouldn't have to constantly be checking the smoker!)

Skip - I sent Steve an inquiry.  I know he is very busy with the intro of the new smoker so I don't expect a reply any time soon.  But who knows? If you think you might build a cart and your skills are sort of rusty, choose a wood that you can use in your smoker if you make a mistake or two.  Waste not want not.

Wow! That's an interesting idea...Hickory, oak, cherry...mess it up, end up with enough smokin' wood for a couple of years!

Just use the search feature for carts.  Here are some links to get you started:

Thanks for the links...I'd seen most of those. There are lots of great ideas on this forum! Will definitely need to make it mobile. Even thinking of something similar to HillCountrySmoker's cart, but incorporating a metal roof and sides, sort of a portable/mobile kitchen. Wondering how stable it would be in winds if not anchored though (would not want it winding up in Oz after a storm!).

Another cart alternative is commercial kitchen equipment stands. They are 24" high, have 3 side walls, and available in many sizes. My condo life dictates a rather small 30" x 18" which cost about $100 (shipped) for SS top w/Galvanized legs and shelf. All SS in same size is on eBay for $160. Castors sold separately.

Spoke to Steve about this before I placed my order, seems like a design change to the legs on the 3D where the castors/wheels attach, use to be a single threaded screw, now the new 3D has similar legs/castor attachments like the 4D, said to be working on a fix/adapter for the issue.

Thanks Maury.
Just looked at MoCass's setup...yup, looks like plate mounted casters as opposed to stem mounted casters before. Hmmm...
OK, just realized that was your setup! Great job on the fabrication! I've never welded, so that's out for me. Was it a real pain to get those 16 bolt holes lined up on the risers?

Maury already received an answer but Steve informed me that there is a factory change on the casters for the 3 series underway so be patient.  They will be back in stock.

Thanks Sarge!
Spoke with Steve this afternoon, got the same answer. (He called me back around 5PM his time--wow! Does he ever get any time off??) I didn't ask about an estimate on when they might be available, will keep an eye out on the website.
I will probably attempt to build a cart with storage and casters after the smoker arrives, will have to see how my knees treat me getting down to foil, empty the drip pan, etc.

Steve rests on the 7th day, Sunday. Other than that he is very much hands on and personable.

I imagine he's super busy this close to Father's Day AND with 4 new smokers in the lineup!
From here on out I should be able to order without having to bother him with a bunch of questions ::)

My Daughters Grandpa took care of this with a little help, he is a jack of most trade, lol

Looks very sturdy!  8)
I'll probably go with wood construction, and see how it holds up. If it's a 'fail', Steve should probably have the new models available by then.
Let's see...measure once, cut twice...more glue and screws...wood filler and paint...I think that's how it goes lol.

Thanks, Pretty sure Steve will have a fix soon since the 3 seems to be one of the most popular/versatile model, I too am waiting for the cart, like the additional shelf attachment.

Well, I see the cover for the 3D/cart combo is back on the website. Maybe the 'new' cart isn't too far off?
Still mulling over building my own cart (wood). Lots of great ideas here.
