Shelf support holes?

I have a quick question about the shelf support brackets on my #3.  There are 2 holes on my shelf support brackets.  One is above the first shelf slot and the other is between the first and second shelf slots.  I thought this was to give a little adjustment to the shelf positions, but I can't hang the support brackets from the second/lower holes.  The brackets run into the top of the smoker.  Any idea why there are two sets of holes to hang the brackets from?

This is a known issue. If you really work it and bend the bracket a little bit you can get the second set of hole in. But with the angle of the pegs it make it hard.

I have been meaning to do it but just haven't yet because of the cold weather here, but my plan is to take the Dremel to it to increase the size of the holes to make them easier to use the second set of holes.

On my model, the rack guide wouldn't fit on the angled pegs if going straight up & down but does fit if I come in from the diagonal.  Grab the bottom of the rack guide and put a little bow in it and it slips right on the pegs.

+1 - gotta come in at an angle.

That trick didn't work on mine. I had to trim the pegs with an angle grinde.  Works fine now.

Mine won't fit at an angle either.  I will have to do a little machining.  Do you guys normally use the higher holes (as long as the meat fits)?

I have been using the higher holes because it is a pain in the arse to bend the rack to get the lower holes on the pegs. But I would like to be able to use the lower holes escpecially for jerky and snack sticks that I want to get up higher in the smoker.

For most smokes the top holes are fine though.
