Redwood Burl - Updated Pics

I have always loved burl wood of any kind and have dreamt of having a burl table some day.  Well, that day may have arrived.  Several months ago, Karen and I took a trip up the coast past Eureka and stopped in a few burl shops.  I found a unique piece in one of the shops that I kind of liked and asked what it would take to make a coffee table out of it.  Surprise, it was just money.

It has been a little over 4 months and I get a call this week saying that it is just about done.  Today, I get some pictures.  Granted, not the best pictures but good enough to be excited about getting it home.

Looks great, massive piece!  I've sold a few burl bowls (knots) in the past I don't even what to know how many smokers that table could have bought!

Dave,

Really nice table, when we had our cabin I always wanted one. When we make our next move back to the mountains (not real soon) it is on my list!

Beautiful table, Dave!!  Being an old carpenter, woodworker, and half-a$$ luthier, I love anything finely-crafted from natures most beautiful building material!  Really nice!  I'd love to see it, in person, so I could put my hands on it!

It was still rough cut when I saw it so I still haven't seen the grain close up yet.  I'm dying to see the character and whether there is any birdseye in it.

I'm hoping to see some better pics, when you get it, Dave!  A slab of redwood burl, that big, should have some real character!

Congratulations Dave, that table is actually a functional work of art.  You're not planning on using it for a bbq cutting board, are you?  LOL.

No, but I feel compelled to post all my food pics on it.  LOL!

Absolutely gorgeous!! I know you and the Mrs. will be pleased with it and enjoy it.

When you going to get this table home? If I was you would be chomping at the bit by now. But, then again do not want to rush the process. Also looks like that will be very heavy piece of furniture. I would love to have that, I did get a burl clock from my Aunt and need to post a picture for you.

It is a 6 hour drive from our house to where it was made and may take a couple weekends before we can make the trip.  I also have a piece of maple burl that has been in my family for years and years that I got when my parents passed.  I'm saving it for my next fish mount.

Hey Dave, that is beyond words but elegant is very close. Is it as heavy as it looks. I wish you very good luck with your new table my friend.
