Power indicator

Is it normal for the power indicator to go out on the first use? It's still heating but the light is out. Again, this is the first use...just seasoning

Light goes on and off as power is supplied to the heating element and then shuts off when inside temp reaches your dialed in temp.  light on means power on, light off means resting until temp begins to drop.

As I was reading your reply the light came back on. Next question: I'm smoking two 9lb butts this weekend. I'll brine both of them. How long do you think I should expect them to take?

Plan for 20+ hours if you don't foil wrap part way through the smoke, plus an hour or 2 for rest time.  And the bottom butt will finish hours before the top butt.  To significantly cut down the total time, smoke over night and wrap in foil with some juice.  That would likely give you a 12 - 15 hour cook time.

+1

Figure 13 to 17 smoke hours and 3 to rest.

I start mine at 7:00 PM night before, give plenty of wiggle room to be done at 5:00 PM pulled next day.

Plus the prior 24 hours brine.

I've used a red can Brinkman for years, so this will be an adjustment. Thanks everyone for the guidance!
