Pinto Beans/Refried Beans

I like a good pot of beans with barbecue.  Here is my recipe and it makes great refried beans.  Nothing fancy. Just good easy pot of beans.
1 to 1 1/2 lb of pinto beans
A little oil
2 tablespoons Members Mark chili powder.  I think it is Tones
1 tablespoon of sugar
11/2 tablespoons salt
I soak overnight.  Cover with about 2 inches of water and bring to a boil.  Turn down to simmer.
Cooks in 2 to 4 hours.
Great over a sweet baked cornbread with honey
When beans are gone use remaining juice over the leftover cornbread
I use Isaac Toup's cornbread recipe.  It is on internet.
I also use at least half the cornmeal as coarse ground for better texture
Some folks just drink the juice

Use the left over beans to make good refried beans.
The flavor is already there so nothing else needed
Just saute a half an onion in some oil.
Put beans in skillet
Mash beans with potato masher
Add bean juice to get the texture of beans you like

I have made many many pots of these for folks and always get good remarks.

Sounds great. A lot of people don't realize just how easy beans are and especially (for me) how cheap they are. I have been using my Instant Pot with great results.
Thanks for sharing.

Great recipe RWB. I also use the Instant Pot for pintos as well as a rather large stove top unit. We toss in a smoked ham hock to give the beans a nice flavor.  Draining off most of the liquid,  and pulling a couple ladles of beans, we use a stick blender to break them up then add back the whole beans. Broth is added to keep them smooth.
