Pid permanent temp sensor location. Did I screw up?

I installed the permanent temp sensor 3" above the stock model 2 location.
Now it seems that EVERYONE is installing the probe much higher.
I installed mine just below the 3rd rack. Exactly 10" from the top.
I am bummed, it made sense to me to keep it close to the stock location.

Should I move it?

Please advise.
Thanks Todd

It is definitely not where most people are putting it. But, before you get too worried and start drilling new holes I would try it out in its current spot and see how it works.

Agree.  I wouldn't move it unless it gets n your way.
Keep an eye on it when loading meats.  If you slide a butt over it, your box is going to get really hot! :o

Hey Todd and welcome from Kansas City, I agree with the rest and would not move it. Just be careful when loading meat that you do not get the meat too close or on the probe. I put mine on the #3 about and 1.5 inches from the top. On the #1 about and inch from the top both next to the center frame. Just the #1 does not have a lot of room. And sometimes I do a Boston Butt in it and did not want to put the meat on the probe. You should be fine with your position and if you find later is in your way then move it. But, for now in my opinion would not move it.

Nail on the head on the main reason for the high location!  When I mounted my first one below the top shelf, as in the Auber instructions (based on the Bradley, mind you), I found it terribly in the way.  1-1 1/4" below the top is not.  Plus, the air/heat is most stable at the top of the box.

It will autotune anywhere... your location just may be more ergonomics than anything else.
