Besides loving to cook, one of my other loves is fishing.  One species that I love to chase in particular is Kokanee salmon.  This is a landlocked version of a Sockeye salmon.  This love brought me to making my own lures that from time to time have been very successful.  Here are some samples of my stuff:

Picture #2 is the dodger that adds action to the lures.  I typically use the 4.5" and the 5.5" blanks.  The rest of the lures that actually trail the dodger are in the 2" - 2.5" long range.

That's very impressive Dave! Im really impressed by your creativity. If I were a fish I would bite one of those.

Wow, those are nice!  How do you make them?
It's kind of like being a 9 year old little girl.  LOL!  I tie all my double snell leaders and then start playing with bead and blade combinations. Some of the blades I paint and some I can buy painted.

I keep boxes of these in my tackle bag so I can make stuff on the spur of the moment on the boat.

Dave, I'll bet if you made one look like a smoked butt the fish would go crazy!  8) Help! Help! My boat is sinking!!  ;D

Dave, have you thought of applying a rub and smoking some of the lures.  You could also mop some of your sauce to the spinners?

All kidding aside, I envy you.  Salmon are a great species of gamefish.  I miss going for kings out of Lake Ontario.  And they do make some of the best eating with so many different ways to prepare them.

Salmon is one gamefish I haven't had the fun to go after. I love eating it though! I'll have to stick with trout which are pretty good too!

Dave I hope you don"t mind me putting my .02 in here with you.. 8)
I think me and you would get along very well, I make fishing poles, did it for myself and several friends for a few years,,

Beautiful work, John.  I've love the beautiful rods that I see made by you custom guys and always want one.  The cost of a good blank scares me back to being happy with my off the shelf rods.  I'm also rough on my rods and know how ticked I'd be if I broke a custom.  :-[

Dave you just got to get the right blank, some are super light and easy to break, and some are tough as nails... you should give building a try its not to hard and a lot of fun,,, but be warned just like Q its addictive, if you are interested go to the MUD HOLE website, there are a bunch of how to videos
