Hi guys,

I’m new to smoking but excited to learn. The wife just got me a model one for Christmas. I’m about to do a turkey as they were on sale after Christmas .50c a lb!!!  It was about 14 lbs so I split the bird in half brined it and rubbed it yeasterday. Going to put it in the smoker in a few hours. I don’t have a scale to weigh my wood chunks, any help on the proper amount?

Im an active hunter, upland bird, waterfowl, big game, and some small game. I just moved to Missouri from Colorado and got bit by the smoking bug.

Thanks

Welcome to the SI family.. Lots of helpful folks on this forum and I learned a lot over the last 2 years.
I would recommend 3-4oz of wood. I use cherry or sugar maple on my chicken/turkey. Good luck.

Hi, Kurt... welcome to the family!  What part of MO?  I lived in Missouri for the majority of my life just moving away 2.5 years ago.

Thanks guys! Just about 45 min South west of St. Louis.

I over cooked the turkey and it still came out good 👍

Got the ribs ready for tomorrow

Welcome to the site! Enjoy the ribs!

Not sure which would you are using, but some chunks can be 4-5oz each. I don’t have any of the chunks that came with my 3D a few years back so can’t help with that size, but they were probably close to 4oz..

Enjoy!

Thanks guys...
Yea after I got my scale to weigh the wood I was a bit surprised. I definitely used to much wood on the fist attempts. Making ribs again this week 👍
