New Member From MI and Ordering Smoker Next Week :)

Hi Everyone-

Brett from Michigan here!  I did a tremendous amount of research over the past year and stumbled onto this Forum.  Between the forum and the PID controller I was sold! (I have sold large equipment with elaborate PID systems for years for work)

I have had a cheapo electric masterbuilt smoker that has more hours than I can count on it.  When it finally died I decided this is a big enough hobby for me that I need the right equipment.

I am deciding between the 3 and the 3.5.  Since I am in Michigan I am going to tour the facility next week and make my decision by looking at units and accessories in person.

Butts, ribs, are all the norm for me.  I also am an avid hunter so making my own sausage, jerky, etc. is a consideration when I'm picking a unit.

Looking forward to getting the smoker and trying the recipes / methods on here!  When I tell others about this forum- I almost consider it cheating because there is so much good information on here!

Welcome here, I am also new and  it is a wealth of knowledge here and every one is willing to help.

Welcome Brent from SE Arizona. Going to visit Steve and walk the floor?  I think I would undoubtedly get the 4 if I were to visit. Would not be able to help myself, the extra width would be nice. But the 3 is plenty large and the 3.5 can only be better.  Enjoy!

Hey Brett, welcome to Club Lazy Q!  I have a 3, but absolutely would have gotten the 3.5 if it had been available!  That extra height cannot be underestimated!  It's as valuable as the extra depth of the 3 over the 2!  Really opens up the options of how much, and what you can smoke!  At any rate, you can't go wrong with either one, but I recommend the 3.5!

If you make a lot of sausage get the 3.5 you will appreciate the extra space. I have a 3 it is fine for most things but loads of sausage get cramped. I do my sausage and sticks at work now. I have access to two Ole' Hickory SSG's.
