New model 2 and 3 smokers will be shipping with built-in handles!  Check out the pics, they're cool!  These units are not that heavy, but are awkward to lift.  We've been working on this for the last year, and now they're here!

Will we be able to get these as an add-on from the Smokin-it store? Shouldn't be too hard to install.

I would rather see a standard issue deeper drip pan than the handles. The casters are top quality I have never picked up my #3.

I just got my #3 tonight. While I don't think I would use the handles often, I can really see the benefit of having them. They sure made it nice to unbox and move around until I installed the casters.

Hertz I was thinking the same thing when I saw the pictures that wee posted. I don't have them but don't feel I'm missing anything.

Brian, you #3 owners probably don't lift them as much as the #2 owners - those suckers are heavy!  But, I think it's a great "no cost" addition to the new ones.  Moving the #2 in and out of a pickup, or onto a table, is not hard, but is awkward.  This came about because lots of folks wanted them, early on.  I don't have them, either, but I wouldn't mind having them (especially for free)! ;)

Wow... I have the handles and didn't realize till now they were this new. I have been using them even to move my unit in and out of the house so I think they will come in handy when moving it to the back of my truck for camping in the summer.

I'm with TmanEater...they were on my #2 when I got it for Christmas and thought they had always been available.  Well, actually, I never thought about them one way or another...just glad they were there.

I'll beg to differ but if you are really motivated, here's the handles.

Hearing how hard it is to drill through the steel on these smokers, I would think cutting a hole for the handle would be a pretty tough job unless you have the right type of saw/tool.

For me, the handles would be nice, but aren't really necessary. I have lifted my #3 into my truck many times and haven't had a problem. I think it would have been hard to lift with the handles being higher up in the body of the smoker. In order to get it up over the tailgate, you really need to be lifting from the bottom of the smoker.

I am probably missing something, but I don't really see a lot of situations where they would be all that useful. I would rather see them put the money into a 325 degree analog controller switch and skip the handles. But that is another story and another thread. ;)

If I owned a smaller unit and was set on handles, I'd get a couple of surface mounted handles that would only require drilling for the screws.

I love the handles on my #3. It really helps as I move it from the garage to the patio for smoking. That thing is a beast and anything that helps out in moving it is nice.
