New digital controller ruined a pork shoulder

Recently installed a newly purchased digital controller in my 2D after the screen on the original one died. Last night went out to set it up to start a 9 pound brined pork shoulder with my family arriving for the holidays to be ready today. Right away started having trouble trying to figure out the user interface. Instructions are extraordinary unhelpful. The programming interface is completely unintuitive. All I was trying to do was to set it to hold at 225. No timers or temperature alerts.

After about 45 minutes of fiddling with the interface I thought I finally got it set, it started up heated up and started smoking. Went to bed. Came down this morning to see the thing beeping. Timer had somehow been turned on and it shut off at some point in the middle of the night. Completely ruined everything. I am so infuriated right now I feel like I want to throw the whole unit out and go to Home Depot and get whatever smoker they have sitting around. I’m going to call and demand a tutorial from SI.

Anyway just needed to vent. I am just infuriated.

I am sorry to hear that. Please get with Steve. Here is a link that may or may not be of help but nothing ventured nothing gained. Also, on the SI home page, for the customer are instructions for all of the SI controllers.
