Hello everyone,

A short time ago we redesigned our rib racks and now offer made in the USA 304 stainless steel rib racks to allow for more capacity.  We have these available  for models 2,2D,3,3D,3.5D,4D and 5D.  Smoke On!

Neat idea; I've been thinking about getting this -- glad I waited for the redesign.

I've got a couple of questions though.

1. I know the ribs don't care how they're cooked, but is there any effect on the finished product whether they're cooked flat on a traditional rack versus on their side in this rib rack?

2. I have a #3. On the Smokin-it website, I believe the picture is still showing the older rack. In that picture, it appears to show that the ribs and rib rack would go into the smoker longways, which would fit perfectly without having to cut the ribs. But it appears to me in this newly updated picture that the rib rack holds the ribs sideways, which wouldn't fit into the smoker. The only thing I could assume is that the longest dimension of the rib rack is the standard width of the #3 (14.5 inches wide), and the shorter dimension front and back would mean that the ends of the racks of ribs would overhang the rib rack. Can you confirm this? Hopefully, I'm making sense here and don't appear too stupid. Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks,  Ken

That's a great question, Ken!  It would be nice if the rack allowed full-length racks in the #3 & up.  I think there is a difference between ribs cooked flat (bone-side down) or standing on edge.  The flat ribs will be juicier, as the ribs on their sides drain all the juices off.  But, the rib rack is a tool that can't be replaced if you need to smoke a LOT of ribs at one time!

I'll see if I can get some answers!

Hello Everyone!

The newly redesigned rib racks for models 3,3D,4D and 5D all have the ribs positioned front to back in the smoker.  SO no need to cut the ribs in half to fit.  The racks for the 2 and 2D are 14-1/2" x 14-1/2" square
and full length ribs would need to be cut to fit the interior of the smoker.
