New addition to the family

The family of out door cooking devices, that is! The #3 arrived yesterday and today it has completed it's maiden seasoning. I assumed the proper lazy Q mind set and just set it up for the recommended time with the appropriate amount of wood. There was no fretting about temps, strange noises or other phenomena-just set and forget. Nice wood perfume was delivered through the 'hood. Pork loin ribs tomorrow. Unboxing, I noticed 2 black "angle iron" shaped pieces of sheet metal 21" long with boxed ends. Any idea of their use?

Hmm...if the angles were loose, they were probably packing material.  You shouldn't have to assemble anything, other than the wheels.  Congrats on the seasoning and first smoke!  Post some pics - we love pics of great Q around here!

Oh, and also congrats on adopting the Lazy Q attitude! ;)

AC, welcome to the asylum. Read some of my posts and you'll see why I call it that :P

Great people here, I am new here as well and can tell you that there is plenty to read to bring you up to speed but if you don't see an answer for a question you may have, feel free to ask away. Someone will be happy to help!

We are all looking forward to your cooks and pictures, we all have a sickness :)

Welcome from Texas! I'm a #3 owner myself and I had the metal bars also. Just packing material, can't smoke it so I threw it away. You have a lot of good Q ahead so happy smokin!

These are the 21" long metal pieces I discovered when unpacking. They were just lying on the top when I opened the inner carton. Seem to be too well made to be simply part of the packing (and they are painted).

Got me, Brian!  I have a model 1 & 2, and have never seen those pieces!  You might email that pic to Steve.  smokinitinfo@gmail.com

Mine had those too, I assumed it was packing material as they were in the corners of the box on the top. Crush prevention I think. I tossed'em.

Brand new owner of my very own #3 as well.  Just unpacked and seasoned it yesterday and i'm smoking ribs tomorrow.  I had the exact same pieces and assumed they were part of the packing material but could be wrong.

Welcome from Ohio. Had the same packing in my #3 when it arrived last Tuesday. Tomorrow will be my third smoke in less than a week. I used too much wood on my first smoke because of my past experience with a smoke hollow. Second smoke was great. I brought chicken to work and had several people taste test. They are wanting more. It was worth the wait. Good luck. Great advice and help on this forum.

Sounds like the mystery pieces are a new addition to Steve's "extreme packing!"  I know they're nothing to install, so don't worry and smoke on! ;)
