Like so many others here I decided I love great smoked meat and am fortunate to be in an area with some awesome choices. But nothing beats doing it yourself. Spent about a year thinking about it and doing a little research, but when I finally got serious, it became apparent that only a few companies make a high quality electric smoker and it was even more apparent that no one touches the value of Smokin-It.
My new #1 arrived last Wednesday and was seasoned that very night. It was christened with cornish game hens and baby back back ribs the next day. Last Saturday was a trip to the local competition BBQ store to get wood (pecan, apple and sassafras), gloves and of course the Maverick 732. Also stopped by the meat market to get a 9 lbs. pork butt.
The butt was brined using the DM Brine last night and is in the #1 as I type this.
Just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks to all the board members who respond and share their knowledge. As a complete novice, I felt comfortable jumping right in thanks to all the helpful posts here. Looking forward to sharing more as I learn.
