I just received my Maverick 732. Any advice out side the instructions that came with it..........

Hey Isaac, I would suggest sealing the ends of the probes where the wire goes into the probe with Permatex red silicone gasket maker. That way will keep the probes from getting moister in them. Also this part of the probes will not get into the meat or give off a funny odor. Also check the probes in boiling water to see what they register. Boiling water is 212 degrees.

Today mine is running about 4 degrees higher on the meat side from my Auber. And maybe 2 degrees difference in box temps. I have a permanent wall mount sensor for my Auber in both smokers. So it is pretty close today, on my last smoke in the #1 with a Boston butt, the meat temps was 10 degrees off. Needless to say was not happy with the maverick. I would suggest you get yourself a thermoworks pocket thermometer to check the meat prior to pulling from the smoker. Here is what I am talking about: http://www.thermoworks.com/products/low_cost/rt301wa.html
I use and and a couple of the people on the forum that has lots of experience uses it as well.

I have a pocket thermometer, and I do check the meat prior to pulling from the smoker. One question I have is, I don't need the probe to check the temp of the smoker (I trust it), can I use that probe outlet for meat.

Good move on checking the finish temp with another therm prior to removal!  I had two 8# butts in the SI#2 on Monday, and the Maverick was reading 198IT at just about 8.5 hours.  Seemed a bit soon to me so I checked with another therm that read 181IT!  I guess my position on the Maverick was not ideal; when I re-inserted into the meat, the temp fell to 183IT.  Took another 2 hours to get to 196IT when I removed and foiled the meat for resting.

As to you question...I think you can use the BBQ outlet for another meat probe as they seem to have the same connectors.  While I am not totally positive, I think the only point to the food vs BBQ inserts is for the display.

Hey Isaac, yes, the reason today was check the box temp. had just finish installing the permanent wall mount sensor and wanted to check it. I too have 2 meat probe sensors and as soon as I smoke in the #1 will be just using probes in the meat.  Was not sure you had the pocket therm. Just a suggestion.

I am not a fan on the maverick, the smoker temp probe just stop working. I sealed the probe as mentioned but i gave up. Prior to buying the auber i purchase the dual temp probe from thermoworks. Expensive but it works greeat. I recently invest in a chef alarm single probe unit from thermoworks. No issues. I only use the auber to control the smoke box temp.

Hey Ed, Do you program the Auber for your smokes? But you do not use the Auber probe in the meat? Or did I misread your statement?
