Man Caves!

With Football season right around the corner, I figured I'd make a post about "Man Caves" or "Woman Caves" whichever sex you identify with, lol.

I am a long suffering Atlanta Falcons fan and every year for the past several, I host a little BBQ at my house and invite friends over to watch the first game of the year. I usually put on a huge spread : Pulled Pork, Brisket, ABTs, Moinks, Brunswick Stew, Ribs, Potato Salad, Slaw, Mac & Cheese, Baked Beans, Greens, Jalapeno Cheddar Cornbread, Sauces, Fresh Baked Cookies (Chocolate Chunk and White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, both homemade). I FEED them well to say the least.

I could do it in the main part of the house but as luck would have it, I finished my basement years ago just so I could have plenty of guests and have room for them. The "Man Cave" is just on the other side of my outdoor kitchen so as they walk around and mingle with drink in hand, they can come out and talk to me while I am being the master of the flame and smoke! LOL

The funny thing is, is that we RARELY even go down there. When I was building it all I told my wife that "We'll never be upstairs again, we can even sleep down here". I have 2 bedrooms down there, it has a mini split ductless hvac system down there so it's climate controlled. We could really stay down there if we wanted. It has just become a place for my daughter to hang out with friends, they sleepover and watch movies all night.

I plan to spend more time down there during football season though. This will most likely be my last football season in this house. We plan on selling it next spring, so it'll be bitter sweet to hand my hard work over to someone else. I have spent a lot of my time and money making this house a home :(

Here's a few pics of my Daughter's "Woman Cave" :)

Jason, your caves are like you, go big or go home.  I just finished my little cave this last month.  There is still some fine tuning to be done but the heavy lifting is complete.

Dave, I like what you did!  Looks nice.  As for my place,  I wanted it to add value to the home as well as be a "cool" place for the kids to hang out. I'd rather them be here where I could keep an eye on them,  lol.

I will make a mini cave at whatever place we move I'm sure,  I'll make it more like a tradtional man cave,  some sports memorabilia and whatnot. Probably just one room, just for me!

The worst part is starting over on your beautiful outdoor kitchen. A lot of it looks built-in, so I assume you will have to leave some behind?

Both are very nice! Het RG you need a big ole Budwiser light over your pool table.
I was going to put a pool table light there but I just went with a ceiling fan to retain the openness of the area.

The only things that I will have to leave are the Gas Grill and Side Burner. They are drop ins, both Natural Gas so the new owner will never have to worry about refilling propane tanks! Being a plumber paid off in that case, lol. As for the Keg that sits in the island, it's going with me ;)

Wherever I move to, I'll have to design and build another outdoor cooking area. It may be basic but who knows? I may make it better than the current one. Depends on how much room I have and how much torture I want to put myself through at the time I suppose.

The next house I buy, I am thinking about combining the man cave and outdoor kitchen into one space. None of it will be nearly to the extent it is now as I am almost positive that I'll not have a basement so I'll be losing the slot machine, arcade cabinet, pool table, the "diner" and the projector but I hope that I can make a better outdoor kitchen with more stuff built in and maybe hang a TV to watch football on. I think I'll add the stuff I didn't get to add on my current outdoor kitchen like a sink (if doable). I am notorious for getting the cart ahead of the horse though. I don't even have another house yet and I am making plans, lol.

BTW, I don't want this whole thread to come off as a "look what I have" deal. That's not the intent. I just think it would've been neat to see how y'all have set up your chill spots! If this thread rubs anyone the wrong way, my apologies in advance!

It's all good. Those who can, do; those who can't, dream.  I enjoyed the pictures. Good luck on the new home. If you are going to look into a gas range, look at the line from Blue Star. Very solid and simple.  We have an 8 burner.

I don't know if I'll have a gasser the next go around. I don't know how "dramatic" I'll make it. I might just line'em all up in a row and throw a stainless steel table out there for a prep area. It really depends on what I have to work with I guess. I always have big ideas. Having the time and money to execute them is another story entirely!

Jason, can I come and live in your basement? ;)  That is the greatest Man/Woman Cave I have ever seen!  I LOVE the mini-diner idea!!  Sure wish I had a basement.... :(

I have a 6 burner with a griddle Blue Star range.  Wouldn't want to be without it. You're right- its great!

I was looking at a drop-in pellet grill. I found that Memphis Grills make two models, one is over $3K and the other is over $4k!! I thought that I could streamline and get rid of all the free standing stuff I had. At that price, not looking like that's going to happen, lol.

I was looking into a Primo Oval XL to be in the island (if I made one) along with a drop in gasser, side burner, drop in pellet grill and make room for my SI in the island as well. Someone else on here did that and I liked it. I wish I could find that post again.

Anyway, this time next year we'll see where I end up with it all!
