Knob Problems

My current knob has developed a lot of play.

Question: Is the flat side of the metal stud underneath what I should use point at the temperature? Think of using a straight edge along the flat side extending to the temperature gauge.

Would a new knob help at all?

Thanks

Not familiar with the analog controller but if you can rotate it to its farthest position consistent with the smoker's highest temperature, that should allow you to reposition the knob  and insert a home made shim along the flat to secure the knob/lessen/eliminate the play. You can then order a new knob.  If there is play in the shaft of the controller, you will need a new controller. You might still be covered under the warranty.

An update. Couldn't really play with it too much as I was doing a smoke yesterday.

It does appear that the straight part of the shaft "points" toward the temperature.

I emailed Smokin-it and asked for a replacement.

The knob, (at least on my #2) is by far the weakest link.  I've gone through a couple.

A quality metal knob or a higher grade plastic knob is definitely needed.

An update...didn't want to pay $10 for a piece of plastic. Found a nice all metal one at a local electronics store for a buck. Ebay has them as well for about that same price. It's a 0.25 inch shaft.

I was at the county landfill today, and they have an area for 'white goods' which is appliances.
Asked if I could grab a couple knobs from some old ranges, and he said no problem, take what you want.  Got some nice 1/4" knobs from an old range which fit perfectly.  Cost was zero.  Just a thought.  I have likely a lifetime supply of spares.
