Jennie's Barbecue Sauce

Our neighbor gave us this recipe years ago and we still make it from time to time. She said she got it from the old barbecue pit master that used to do the barbecue for all of their church gatherings. Its a tomato based sauce with a hint of citrus.
  • 1 large bottle of catsup (32 oz.)
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 onion - diced
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tsp. seasoned pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. seasoned salt
  • 1/2 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup sugar
Pour catsup into saucepan. Squeeze lemons to remove seeds, Pour the lemon juice into the pan with the catsup and add the rest of the ingredients.
Cut lemon skins into quarters and add to the sauce.
Simmer for 15-20 minutes stirring occasionally.
Remove lemon skins and pour sauce back into the empty catsup bottle.

Try this for pepper if you can find it.  Its around here, but not sure regions.

I've never seen that here either.  Must be regional?  I can think of a lot of uses for it so I'll keep an eye out for it. May just have to order it though. I'm thinking salt and seasoned pepper rubbed on a brisket might be a hit.

My thoughts exactly!

I never heard of it before I got this recipe. Its available in most of the grocery stores here so it may be a regional item.
