It’s here!

Well, I’ve been reading this forum for several years, and finally, I just about was ready to push the button on the order for a 3D, when they went out of stock. Then, the Christmas special came, and I went ahead and bumped it to WiFi. I ordered it 12/19 and it shipped within a few hours, supposed to arrive 12/26, but I kept track of Santa’s sleigh and he got a move on and promised me to deliver 12/24.  So, I arranged a smoker-sitter to be at the house Monday... imagine my surprise when Saturday, I got a call from the local elves union that they had a representative at my house.  Unfortunately, I was 250 miles away!  “Oh, Neighbor, Dear!  Could you please run next door and sign for my package? And stuff it in the house?  Thank you, thank you!”

I haven’t seen it yet, but I put the app on my phone in anticipation!

I can hardly wait. Merry Christmas to ME!

And, by the way, I’m in SE Oklahoma, where we have more bbq joints than drug stores.  I’m not making medical claims for bbq, I’m just sayin’.

Welcome and Happy Holidays.  I also got my smoker for Christmas although it came months early (my wife suggested if be a Christmas present).  Exciting stuff......I was thrilled when mine arrived....sometimes the little kid comes out in any of us.  I hope you enjoy it as much as everyone here does.  Happy New Year - Tom

Thanks, everybody, and Happy New Year!

Did my first brisket, I am sure happy I got the WiFi model, so nice to be able to see what’s going on from anywhere in my network.

There seems to be a delay between the box and the app of a few minutes — I set it to box 225 and meat temp of 190. Took 15:15 hours.  At 189degrees, I got up, went to the kitchen, set up the cooler, got the foil ready.  Started hearing this odd noise...  app still said 189.  Went outside, box was beeping and said “End”.  I shut it down and took my goodies inside. App still showed 189. Kitchen (where I’d left the phone) is maybe 12 feet from box and maybe 20 from router.  Box is about 6’ from router.

I need to work on my probe placement or flip it over — bottom 1/2” got over cooked dry and hard,  the rest of the brisket is perfectly soft and moist, somewhere between slice and pull, depending on location. I had the fat side up...

Anyway, I am a very happy camper!

On a side note, it’s nice to see so much more activity in the forums this morning. It’s been pretty quiet around here for a while.

I do briskets fat side down.  The fat cap helps prevent drying out that portion closest to the heating element.
