Isn't it interesting how the SI noobs have become the masters?

It has been about two weeks since David (AKA Old Sarge) pointed me toward the Smoken-It and away from the MES 40 that I was considering.

In the two weeks since coming here I have read every thread from every section except for "The Little Guy" and "The Big Kid" (I am on to them next).

The fascinating and fun thing has been to read posts from some of the experts (Tony, Joe, Ben, Ed, and many more) and their first cooks and the trials and tribulations that they have gone through to become the BBQ Masters that they are now.

This give me hope and expectation that I will be able to put out some pretty good "Q" going forward. I am sure that I will have some bumps in the road as I am guessing the experts still do. But hopefully there won't be quite as many thanks to all of the members of this forum who have contributed their time and efforts to make this such a great learning place.

OK, sorry for getting mushy. But I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help so far.

Glad to have you along for the ride. I know everyone, including me, is very glad for the vast amount of useful information posted on this forum. I know for a fact I wouldn't be anywhere near the level of "master" (lol that makes me chuckle) if not for these fine people.

Can't wait to see what you have in store as well.

We're sure glad you're here, Gregg!  It's true that, early-on, we were kind of flying by the seat of our pants, and learning a lot along the way!  That was the fun part.  When I got my #1, electric Q was totally foreign to me, so I had lots to learn (and figure-out on my own).  The experimentation is the fun part!

Now that we are growing, new owners won't have to go through half the trials we did.  I believe the help and advice you can find here now will give new owners an even bigger "edge" to come up with some really killer Q!  We were taking the first steps; you will be taking the giant leap!  I think there were only about 600 TOTAL posts when I joined, so there wasn't near as much to choose from!

I look forward to the exciting experiences and recipes that are ahead of us, and I - for one - appreciate the compliment!  I'm nowhere near what I would consider a "master," except to my son - I have him fooled.  ;)  Funny thing is, it's been such fun being part of a growing "culture," if you will, that bucks the "traditional" Q mentality that "Lazy Q isn't REAL Q!"  I'd put our members cooks up against anyone out there!

Welcome to the club, Gregg!

I have been smoking for a bunch of years,,  That's part of the fun of it for me,,, You always have different things to learn,, and as always, I have learned a lot on here,,, There is always someone out there who is coming up with a new and better way of doing things... and unlike other hobbies the results are great to eat...
I like that part  ;)

Not masters but just very educated on how to proper smoke meats.  I have been doing this for almost a year, i still get excited to try some different.  My wife always says knowledge is power. I can't wait for this darn snow to leave and start smoking every Saturday and sunday. I still consider myself an educated novice.

I have done a lot of smoking over the years. But the hard part about using the Smokin-It has been to understand that the methods that I used with my propane and lower grade electrics do not always apply with the SI.

I took a crash course by reading pretty much every thread here. But I have a lot to learn yet.

I am looking forward to the days when I am not rushing with the outside tasks cuz I'm freezing my butt off. :)

I love the fact that i can ask questions about my #2 or smoking a piece of meat on my #2 and many people have run into the same issues and can guide me. They are using the same smoker so the advice is sound and easy to understand.
I just wish this terribly cold winter would let up on us here in Indiana ( most of the U.S. actually)... they are calling for another winter storm on Sunday March 2nd and the long range forecast for March is record cold temps..... i am gonna forget everything i learned about smoking last fall.

Lot's of love in here....

Maybe you guys are misinterpreting the section titled "Anything Goes"    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
