Any smokers on here in Cheyenne?
Hello everyone - I'm Chad. I'm a retired Senior Master Sergeant, USAF. Shout out to any Air Force brothers and sisters!
I grew up in GA - raised on some damn good BBQ. If you watch the movie, "Smokey and the Bandit," there's a scene where Jackie Gleason comes out of a restaurant with toilet paper stuck to his glasses. That's an "Old Hickory House" restaurant - and my family ate there in the 70's.
When I left for the Air Force in 1984, it was hard to find good BBQ in some of the places I was stationed; so I learned how to cook my own.
I was blessed enough to be in south Texas (brisket) and on the central coast of California (tri-tip). Also, a tour of the "far east" influenced my style.
The 3D allows me to cook regardless of the weather! We get wind - real wind - lots of wind. Tractor trailers blow over out here. So, I got mine setup inside my garage.
My wife and I have been together 34 years and we have two wonderful boys who also serve and served their country in the military.
If it's easy, it's fun. If I lived somewhere warmer, I'd love to have a couple of cords of hickory and smoke on a stick burner; but - that's a damn hard thing to do in Wyoming - at least where I am. We don't have local hardwood to smoke on. So this is the best option for me.
Glad to be here!
