.....A Smokin-It forum member meet up? The reason I ask is that my wife and I (some of you got a glimpse of her nuttiness when she hijacked my account) go to a meet up with fellow members over at my other guilty pleasure, the Broil King Keg forum. We went last October and will be going again this October. They hold it at Goose Pond Colony in Alabama and we have guys from CT, WI, NC and even Canada come to it! We spent 3 days there cooking on kegs, eating and drinking way too much and it is a blast!

I figure that these SI smokers travel pretty well, maybe something could be arranged to all hang out and cook and eat and get to know the people behind the names. Any interest in this from you guys?

Hey Jason,

Great post and idea, I was wondering the same thing. Meet up and do some smoking with fellow Smokin-it members.....

It would be a great way to compare recipes and different ways of using our smokers.

Ive done this with my cat fishing forum group and considering we spend most of the time eating, it sounds like a perfect fit for this group,, depending on when and where I would be interested,, I would love to hang out with you guys for a weekend somewhere fun,,

Man, Jason, we've certainly kicked it around!  One of the challenges with our smokers - unlike your Kegs - is power!  Where would we be able to meet, and have adequate power for everyone's smokers?  Of course, it would have to be a pretty central US area, since we're spread out all over!  Maybe something like an RV park?  We'd sure need a lot of hookups to get the job done!

I've taken my SI2 camping. I'm picturing a RV park full of us smoking away. It's a heavenly picture. I'd be less concerned with the electric hookups than the available meat and beer supply resources.  ;)

I have connected with another local I met on this forum and he only lived a few miles from me and works at the same company. I sold him some of my wood supply and we chatted some. I should give him a ring for a weekend smoke-off sometime.

RV is on my list..... well...... when I have time list.

Maybe just keep options open when Steve has shows and when/where?

I'm less than an hour from a Cabelas and a huge Bass Pro, but last I checked there were not any hookups for cords.

Power shouldn't be an issue I wouldn't think. The place where we have our "Kegtoberfest" had plenty of power, we just had drop cords ran all over, lol. Even though it's charcoal a lot of us use ATC (Automatic Temp Controllers) to keep the fire stoked during the night. I personally use an Auber so I was happy to see that Auber Instruments made a PID for the SI! The Auber plant is not very far from where I live, maybe an hour away.

It's just something that crossed my mind, maybe it's not realistic. We only had about 20 people show up for the Keg event, OMC/Broil King brought down 3-4 Kegs to cook on, I brought one of mine, and there were about 5 others brought so we had 9-10 total to cook on. We had Gumbo Pots and deep fryers and rice makers going too, cooking all day and all night. It was the longest and best buffet I've ever had, lol.

You went willingly into Alabama.  ;D

Only way they can make me do that is if they pay me and I do get paid to go to Guntersville Lake on occassion.

Actually, power shouldn't be an issue regardless of where.  Portable generators can be had for less than $100.  Now that would make for a less than quiet and tranquil environment, but it's an option.
