First Pork Shoulder

Successful first pork shoulder on my new #3.  Just shy of 9 lbs and smoke time was about 14 hours using 9 oz of smokinlicous wild cherry and hickory.  It received rave reviews from my family!

Happy Mother's Day weekend!

Outstanding! Look at the bark on that pork butt!!!

What kind of rub did you go with? And how about sauce? Are you a vinegar style sauce or thicker style sauce?

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Jeremy.

I used Memphis Dust rub and my family loves Joe's KC Original Sauce.  I like both sweet and vinegar but my family strongly prefers a sweeter sauce.

Have a great weekend!

I also use Memphis Dust on my pork butts. It’s great stuff!

I have not tried the Joe’s KC before. I’ll have to give that a try, I’m sure my family would like it - but I’m like you, I like the vinegar style more myself!

The results look awesome! But, you must like a lot of smoke. 9 ounces is quite a bit. I like heavy smoke flavor too and typically only use 5-6 ounces. But, the reviews speak for themselves, right? :)

I might have overdone the wood chunks a little bit...the smoke was about right for me and there was a little bit that wasn't fully burned when I was done so I probably actually used around 7 oz or so.

That looks great.. Always love to see how clean the shoulder bone looks when you
tear into the meat. Love Memphis dust on pork product. Used some last night on a 8lb loin.
