DIY Chip screen + Deeper Drip Pan

DIY chip screen was cut from a Weber 6434 Deluxe Stainless Steel Vegetable Basket that I haven't used in several years.  I'm planning on testing this on a pork butt cook next weekend (chunks not chips).
The pan is a 4 inch deep half-size stainless steel steam pan.  The original pan was not deep enough to handle multiple cuts of meat.

Excellent way of repurposing something! I figured this is what you were going with when you asked some questions about the width of holes and gauge of the steel.

And good pick up on the pan. I have one saved in my Amazon list for when I decide to get one.

I'm still new to the lazy-Q life.  Really enjoying learning the 3D smoker so far.

Tried a dry run with the DIY chip screen and a 2 ounce pecan chunk.
It was a no go. 
The stainless steel is 16 gauge (1/16" thick) and apparently does not conduct heat well enough. 
I ran the temp up to 220 and didn't see any smoke coming out of the top vent.  There was just a faint smell of pecan.
Bummer!  :-\

I made trays out of aluminum flashing to use instead of chip tray.  Works well. Here's a pic of my first efforts.

I saw your post when searching what others have done.  I made a stainless box as seen below.  It works but, I didn't have enough material for two boxes.
I looked for aluminum flashing at two big box stores but all I could find was galvanized material or painted material. 
I ran across a bare aluminum gutter guard (Titan 5 in. x 3 ft. Aluminum K-Style Gutter Guard) which was available at both local box stores for ~$4.49.
I cut this to fit and VIOLA!, a dry run found it worked well.  I'll stick with this under $5.00 solution for now.
