Coolers

I packed the small Yeti Wed night, today Sunday, need it for a trip tomorrow.

Ice still left, everything ice cold!  I also filled a 1990's coleman which I had to empty two days ago, all melted

Sat outside not in direct sun, but was used for three days.  Mid 80's.

I'm sure there are other good coolers out there, but if you want a cadilac name it passed my test.

I use it on the road for butcher shops and shopping all the time.

Some TureValue stores have these small ones for $199 instead of more at Cabelas or direct.

Oh and they mail you a free bottle opener!  <ok sarcasm>

A buddy of mine has one, and says just what you do.  My wife would think I'd fallen off the deep end if I paid 2 bones for a cooler! :o  The larger ones are $299, I believe, at Sam's.  Crazy good, if you have the need!

I have a Coleman Stainless Steel Cooler that I have had for years and it works great. I have been looking at the Pelican line, they are very similar to the Yeti but cheaper.

I noticed Igloo also has a copycat at Sam's.  Still pricey, but cheaper than the Yeti bottle opener, er, cooler.

If I had to ask for the <gift> again, get the larger one.  I could not pull the trigger on the price, but as a gift......................

A Butt or ribs over some cooler packs fills up quick.  Below link also works great.  I think the key is top and bottom cold in a cooler.

I have used a Coleman thermoelectric cooler for years and am very happy with it. No ice needed, just plug it into a 12 volt outlet or the mains using an adapter. It is great for long road trips with no need to find ice or fight with contents made sodden by melted ice. You can also use them as hot boxes by reversing the polarity and they hold around 150 degrees. I am experimenting using it to hold/rest butts etc, so far with good results.

John,  I agree the Yeti coolers are wonderful !! I have a 20qt. and a 45qt. The 20 is used everyday and all I use is a 1/2 gallon Apple juice jug filled with water and frozen it stays cold all day. If you have dry ice in your area a small piece will last for a week. At a buck 50 for a bag of ice it pays for its self pretty quick.

The real worth of a Yeti is so you can get the sticker and put it on your truck for everyone to see, everyone knows that.  ;D

I also own a Igloo Marine Breeze Roller Cooler. I keep this in my car (I live in Florida) great for a trip to Costco or just the grocery store.

Here's a 65-qt Pelican for $305.  I would buy Pelican in a heartbeat!  They make the best hard gun cases on the planet, so I'm sure their coolers are top-notch!

Pelican 65 Qt cooler

I agree the pelican are built like tanks, I have been looking at the 45 qt but still undecided on the size. I keep checking the prices and will most likely pull the trigger later this summer.

But do they come with a bottle opener?:)

All the good ones aren't cheap.  Took some convincing it was just a cooler..............

Some of the areas that I fish don't have convenient ice supply so I made some modifications to my large igloo. I can go 4 or 5 days with frequent lid opening now.

Insulated the lid and covered with plastic panel:
