Cleaning the racks

I was having a hard time scrubbing the crust off my racks after a smoke and someone suggested spraying them down with cooking spray before I use them. Maybe everyone already does this but I just never thought of it and it does make clean up a lot easier.

Cleaning is a breeze for me.  Since I do the prep and smoke to produce that great Q, everyone else gets to clean up.  Just like lazy Q, it's lazy clean up.

All joking aside, I use Pam if I have it on hand, otherwise olive oil works just as well.

Me too, Tony!  The cleanup crew is always happy to oblige when I bribe them with great Q!  Hehe.  The dishwasher helps with the shelves, too. ;)

I did not remove my racks for the seasoning burn. I did not feel the need to at the time and doing so I may have done myself a favor. My grates come clean with a light brushing with the grill brush and a wipe of a paper towel. Multiple smokes and they haven't needed more than that.

I too am guilty, the girls usually clean up - after all, I have spent hours cooking with the smoker.  ;)

I just let them sit in the sink soaking with dish soap and water for about an hour, they clean real easy.

My previous smoker racks wouldn't fit in the sink so I bought this mortar tray to use as a soak/wash tub.

Now that I have a model 4, my racks won't fit.  They just barely fit in the dishwasher.

I'm luvin the mortar tray idea...  ;D  thanks.

I gave mine a quick scrubbing in the sink and let the dishwasher do the rest.  They came out clean!  My wsm racks never came out this clean.

Racks and side racks and seafood racks always turn out fine in dishwasher.  Look like new.

Maybe the #3's are tool long though?

Fine for a 1 and 2

My #3 racks just barely fit in mine. They stick out a bit in the front, but when I close the door they slide up on the door a little.

I can't fit my #2 racks in my dishwasher, so they get a hand wash with a brush.  The side racks, though, do fit in my dishwasher, and I give them a washing about once a month.

I found the perfect size tub in Wallyworld's storage bin section.  It holds the #3 racks with about 1" extra on all sides.  Will hold all the racks soaking in some dishwashing detergent to soften the caked on particles for removal without a lot of work.  It was about $4.  By the time the smoker cools down I have usually lost interest in the idea of immediate cleanup.  By the time I get around to it (usually just before the next smoke) it is usually a PITA task.  This simplifies things a lot.  Soak and sponge wipe.
