Christmas Ribs? Yep

So it seems that we are forgoing a usual Christmas dinner this year. No ham but rather baby backs instead! My brother-in-law, Kevin, requested ribs. I am going to do an experiment and make something different. I most likely will do a test run this weekend so I don't end up using the family as guinea pigs. Last Christmas we bought my mother-in-law an electric smoker and she loves it. We are going to let her make some ribs and we'll bring some too. It'll be a friendly little "throwdown" of sorts :)

I am going to marinate my ribs in Redd's Apple Ale and then smoke as I normally do but I probably won't use my go to bbq sauce that I always use on ribs (and moinks). I may make something more "Christmasy" to go on them. Any ideas from the masses of a good sauce recipe?

With friends and extended family we get to have a few Christmas dinner celebrations. It lets me do traditional and experimental in the same week.

A few years ago we were at a party with a cranberry pepper sauce that might be a Christmas kind of sauce.

I normally put a sauce on my ribs that has molasses, honey, beer, chipotles in adobo, garlic and other such things but I thought I'd do something of a holiday inspired glaze. Cranberry pepper does sound intriguing!

I make my own jellies and jams and it wouldn't be hard to make any fruit and pepper jelly and use it as a glaze.

OK Jason, now I am intrigued to try something different. I think a little cranberry with other typical ingredients to make a nice BBQ sauce would be great. You may have to add a little more sweet but I think it would go well with molasses and brown sugar. Or honey.....

I am going to wing it. I was planning on buying some Big Red soda and reducing it and adding this and that but I can't find that soda for sale in Georgia so.......I'll get in the kitchen and see what kind of monster I can create! Muhahahahah! :P

Maybe or maybe not??????................I like this on beef esp when I do tenderloin beef steaks.  Ribs? hmmmmmm.  Its a rich red thick sauce.

Ingredients

Wine (Merlot)

chicken broth

unsalted butter
all-purpose flour to thicken
1 tablespoon olive oil
ground black pepper (freshly, to taste)
SLICED REGULAR ONIONS
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
1 teaspoon fresh thyme

I like the sound of that on some nice shortribs but for these ribs I want a sweet glaze. I think I've decided on doing a fireball whiskey bbq sauce! I've already marinated the ribs in Redd's Apple Ale and rubbed them with 2 different rubs and have them in the fridge in plastic wrap. I just need to get to the store and buy my sauce ingredients (fireball whiskey mainly). We'll see how it goes! I'll report back with the results!

Hey Jason, tried cranberry sauce with good result. Here's the link: http://smokinitforums.com/index.php?topic=5809.0
Let me know if you want to try the recipe.
