Christmas prime rib

Got married in October and volunteered to smoke a prime rib for Christmas dinner. Need some advice: lots of people on this forum state 200 degrees until internal temp is 125/128. No one mentions average time per pound. I will be smoking at home and then transporting to in-laws. Need to plan proper cooking time. And last question .. some say reverse dear and some start hot (400) then turn down to 200

Thanks in advance

It usually averages 45 mins/lb for me.  I use 215* smoker temp though.  For the reverse sear, I use 500* oven for a few minutes (see DM's post) and it works perfectly.  You will love this cook!

What you described is not reverse sear but searing. Reverse sear you start at lower temp, restt eh meat and crust or sear the meat at high heat.
