Cannot find/see attached pics

Inscrutable

Every time I click on a pic attachment in a post I get only ‘404 attachment not found’
Wanted to sort this out before I try to post pics of my setup and muck it up.
Is there a setting within this board and my account/profile, or something on my iPad/iPhone?

Someone actually needs to post something new and see if it works.  They just upgraded the forums a week or two ago.  My guess is that the path to where files get stored got changed which makes all old links broken, but new links will work.  If it turns out new links don't work either, then it might be permissions on the images folder, instead.

OK... just tried uploading and got, "The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved."  Admins are going to have to do some work to make sure config is correct and that all folders exist with correct permissions.

The forum crashed. Ben is working on full restoration including images.

Hmm...  I would question what they mean by "crashed".  It really "feels" like a misconfiguration and/or oops...  if they get thoroughly stuck, I have a lot of knowledge and experience in this area and would be open to working out some kind of reasonable trade for services.

It’s disappointing that we are not able to see any attachments as that’s pretty much a main reason to visit the forums. No attachments, no visitors….

Can you post pictures and see the newly posted pics or is that broken as well?  Our backups as well as our pics database was corrupted and we are working to fix it.

Thanks,
Ben

Can't post attachments...

Were the actual pictures corrupted or is that the links just don't work?  I would expect that attachments are uploaded to a particular directory structure and that there are entries in the database to point to the photos/files on the filesystem.  First step is going to be fixing the permissions.  Assuming you still have the photos, the next step is to make sure the DB has correct pointers to the files.

I hate to see this situation and will freely provide a limited amount of my professional services if you want to reach out to me.
