Cable cutter

.. cable tv, that it..
Kodi (former XBMC) works on just about any platform. If you own Amazon Fire TV it can easily sideloaded. It works great on a $150 Google Chrome box, if you want to hide it behind your tv.... or, installed on your PC/Mac/Linux.
Throw in Fusion addon and you don't need anything else - and say good bye to cable tv company or satellite. Missed an episode of your fav tv show or movie, not to worry, everything - movies, tv shows, international channels, music - is there, on demand :)
100% legit though!

pros:
I can watch just about ANY movie/tv show when i want, free. Put all Doctor Who, Star Trek (yeap, i'm a sci-fi buff  :) ) since season 1, in my favs and watch at my leisure. Picture quality differs but all new streams are HD, 720p or 1080p.
There are THOUSANDS or streams from all over the word, almost impossible not to find what you looking for.
All sports you need and than some, from curling and cricket to soccer and football.

cons:
you need a decent internet connection, dial up won't cut it. I guess 5-10mbs will do it..
TOO MANY streaming hosts, you'll be tempted to add more "add-ons" and definitely get confused, especially if you find one you like (you won't remember which one was it)
If you search for something in particular you'll find lots of streams but not all of them as active at that moment - you have to choose another stream source, which might take a minute or two.

anyhow, install it on you pc - it's a straight install - than look how to install Fusion (http://fusion.tvaddons.ag), there are tons of info about it (like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5eIBVbWPK8) Do not install anything else, is more than enough.

not on tv directly, but you can attach your pc to a HDMI port... if you have an Android box attached to your tv most likely you'll be able to install Kodi on that Android box. I have it on Amazon Fire TV and Asus Chromebox, plus 2-3 external Android gizmos (Minix nad WeTek Play) but i don't use them often. Too bad it can not be install on Roku (yet)
Try it on your pc first, see how you like it...

I cut the cord (from Dish) back in May.  Using a Roku 2 and an over-the-air digital indoor antenna for the local channels.  Netflix and Hulu subscriptions.  Went from paying $68 to $18 a month with more content.
It'll take a little while to retrain your brain on how to watch TV this way.  We all grew up conditioned to surf channels until we either found something good or didn't suck.  With this setup, it's more like using a DVR; you get to pick what you want to watch and when you want to, as opposed to how the networks airs them.
Just my 2 cents.

Yep... I have TV/Internet service from Comcast. Only have TV because it brought the package deal down. I pay $54 to Comcast and get a bunch of channels I never watch, + HBO and Showtime. I do occasionally watch HBO stuff, but even that is through my Roku 3. For that $54 though, the big winner is the 105mbps internet. So, I have the Roku 3, loaded with Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, PBS Kids, HBO GO, etc. The only time my TV is actually displaying cable channels is when the Father In Law is over watching the kids on a Saturday when there's football on.

I haven't paid for regular cable TV in almost a decade, and I really don't miss it.

Pete,

I just installed it on my windows 10 and it seems to work. From what I can tell I need to click on the videos and then addons and then search for the shows I am looking for?

I just found Doc Martin the 7th season and its not even playing in the US yet!

One thing I noticed was that some of the shows were breaking up or not streaming, so I selected another provider on the list and that seem to work.

Any other tips/tricks here?

Thanks Greg

You pay $54 for TV and internet to comcast?  Maybe its a regional thing, but I'm 3 x's that with comcast and thats not even HD television! and no premium channels.

I'd love to cut the comcast cord!

yes, it can happen, streaming providers are all over the word.. also, if you select an 1080p (or 720p) stream that requires a faster internet connection, otherwise it can flicker or buffer too often. But again, there are lots of streams to choose from :)
If you install Fusion and run configuration wizard for Windows, you'll see 4 modules under "video" (Genesis, IceFilms, Salt and another one - i use Genesis most of the time). Google for Fusion with config wizard...

Is that the introductory rate?  Seems like an awfully good price for both TV and Internet.  I'm paying $60 for just the Internet.

I am with Comcast in Florida and my monthly TV and Internet is $160.00 per month. The internet is super fast so no complainants there, but man the TV side is expensive.

It is the introductory. Going on 3 years now on introductory rates. You just have to call and yell at them periodically, or cancel your service. All of the sudden, deals come out of the woodwork.

Pete,
Good stuff! Thanks for taking the time to share.
I spend a fair amount of time in FL during the winter months and presently use amazon prime. Kodi will certainly expand my options.
Thanks again,
Al

Al, if you have the Amazon Fire TV (stick or full) you might find this useful: http://www.htpcbeginner.com/install-kodi-on-amazon-fire-tv/
