Big news, I was on barbecuebible.com and they had a feature on Smokin-it smokers. They mention that there are some 6400+ forum members.  This is awesome stuff. So proud to be in the SI family.

I'm not sure where they got the number from, as our site is showing just under 2500 members:

This IS "awesome stuff" though considering that this community has only been around for a few years. The rapid growth is phenominal and better yet the friendliness and helpfulness of the community as a whole lead by Divotmaker is second to none as compared to the several other forums that I belong to.

This forum is great! I don't want him to get a big head over this, but Tony is a big reason why. He does a helluva job! The rest of you guys ain't bad either, lol!

That's cool!  Nice to see folks are noticing us!

Just for the record - this is because of all of YOU!  I have tried to help, and drive discussions, but without ALL OF YOU, we would be nowhere!!  You can stand out in a field, and scream at the top of your lungs how great it is to be in that field, but if nobody shows up to share it with you, you end up alone in a field!

Give yourselves a round of applause, and accept my sincerest appreciation for all of your help in growing the BEST BBQ forum on the web! ;D

I just checked out the link, and am a little embarrassed that I didn't realize this was Steve Raichlen's site!  (SI) Steve is aware of this, and it's BIG!  Thank you, to everyone that made this happen!!

In Steve Raichlen's latest series "Project Smoke" he uses pretty much every style of smoker, and does not play favorites, which I like. It's a good series for someone thinking about getting into smoking, with quick demonstrations on how each smoker works. I was disappointed to see that his token electric is a Bradley. When you are used to the solidness of an SI, it looks kind of cheap and thin. And uses those dumb pucks. Steve (SI) should check into getting the SI on the show. It appears that Weber, BGE, Bradley, etc. are sponsors (public television donors) of the show. His show has a large viewership, and I find the info pretty legit.

I agree with Kari! I think it would be AWESOME for the SI to have residence at BBQ U! I'd love to see Steve get in touch with Steve and make this a reality, very cool indeed.

Wouldn't be surprised if it heads that way, Jason!  ;)

I've been recording "Project Smoke" on TV which features many different brands and types of smokers.  I just wish Steven Raichlen would show a Smokin-it smoker.  Actually it was while watching this series that I decided I wanted to buy an electric smoker.  After much research, including this forum, I decided on the 2D.

My understanding is that his smoking and grilling equipment comes from companies that "pledge" a certain amount of money to his public television show. (Note that at the beginning of the show they are ALL sponsors.) That's how public television gets "advertising" dollars without actually having "ads" playing during the show. Steve (SI) would probably need to contact Maryland Public Television and negotiate a pledge amount and/or provide a SI at no cost. And Raichlen and his entourage would need to test/approve the quality of the product before they would feature it on the show. My guess (or hope) is that this might already be in the works...or it should be...before Masterbuilt comes along and stinks up the show (they might have already been rejected). And that flimsy cheap looking Bradley already bugs me that it made the cut...

I totally agree on the Bradley, Kari.  It is cheap looking, and I don't think those cute little pellets could compare to good wood.  Anyway, my first choice had to be  a stainless steel smoker because I'm too close to the Bogue Sound and the Atlantic ocean.

I just realized I said pellets instead of pucks in referring to the Bradley smoker.
