Banned.......Again

As some of you know I am active on several sites.  Well, after bringing up the new digital model smokers from SI, spreading the gospel so to speak, I was banned. I won't mention the site; not worth it (it is the second site I have been banned from). And all my previous posts regarding Smokin-it and another well known smoker as well as my other equipment have been removed.  Such is life.

Sounds like you hit a nerve and won!

Sort of like arguing politics at times:)  You just get censored to the Siberia.

I call your removal a win.

Way to go, Dave!  You know you're making an impact when they ban you!  Although I haven't joined your "banned" club, I've been warned several times! >:(

Do you find that there is a lot more negativity on that site in general? Or are they just anti-electric smoker? I know there can be a lot of snootiness in the BBQ world. This forum is really positive, and friendly to other opinions and equipment. Hope that never changes. I've read comments sections on various popular BBQ sites, and have been shocked at the level of brutality.

I feel like it's because we've all been "enlightened" by our experience with the SI, to the point that we don't really have to "defend" it. The BBQ purists are missing out on a great tool. Coming from a background of following more BBQ "snootiness" myself, I'm happy to be free of that.

Kari-No hostility at all. I think it had more to do with my low participation over the last few years. Essentially my post must have been interpreted as an unsolicited commercial or sales pitch. So I can live with it and I understand having to enforce forum rules. What really hurt was calling it spam. spam is one of my favorite foods. Dave

Sarge:  The beatings will continue until moral improves ;-))
If we haven't been kicked out of something at one time or another...we're probably not doing our job!  Good for you doing a good job Sarge!

For those of you who don't know, Dave is one of the early "founding members" here (if not the earliest), and spends a lot of time stalking the various forums, pushing the SI cause!  He is a great asset here, and a friend.  Thanks for what you do, buddy!

I am happy to say that Dave helped open my eyes to Smokin-It on another forum.

I almost bought a Masterbuilt, and am so glad that I did not.

I had never even heard about SI and wasn't planning on spending that much money on a smoker. But after doing a comparison, the choice was pretty easy.

And I will say that Dave presents the options well. He just urges people to take a look at the SI's and make their own decisions.

I have thanked you Dave a few times already, but every time I fire up my my steel-boxed friend I am happy you steered me away from that plastic and cheap metal alternative.

I guess it is that forum's loss. Too bad for the other participants, whose exposure to a variety of equipment and opinions has been censored.

This was one of the reasons we started lets talk bbq. A bunch of us was on the old Char-Broil forum "Sizzle on the Grill" Char-Broil stopped supporting it. We were getting blasted with spam. Towards the end there was no control over who signed up. Had trolls and posers and loose cannons. We were so constrained to only show Char Broil products in use. We had so much more to offer.......so we branched off and played in our own sand box.......where every type of outdoor cooking style (and in-door) is welcome.

I love this forum.....it has the same friendly vibe and old flannel shirt feeling as my other forum  8)

There are many equipment specific forums dedicated to a specific manufacturers product.  This forum is dedicated to Smokin-it.  Cookshack, SmokinTex, Bradley all have their own dedicated forums so it is understandable if moderators removed posts or ban those who extol the virtues of a competing forum or product. I am comfortable with that. All inclusive forums cover a wide variety of outdoor cookers:  electric, gassers, pellet poopers, charcoal, wood and the like. Let's talk BBQ, Smoking Meat Forums, the Q joint and others are among them. These I prowl looking for those trying to decide what to get.  And I have helped some with a non-SI or CS smoker when it seemed like they were being ignored. It is fair say that I am no longer posting on one of them.

Well, I have not been banned (yet) but I have checked out of a few places in my years perusing forums. The place where I am an Admin of has not gotten much of my attention lately as they tend to be dyed in the wool staunch supporters of the grill that we all have in common over there. They don't mind a post of cooks on other vessels but really they just tolerate it. There are 2 users in particular that give me a hard time about it. They are closed minded idiots (did I just say that?? YEP!) and they can't see the usefulness of other types of cookers.. I love my SI and my other cookers but I just don't even bring anything else up over "there" so as to not anger the natives, lol.

I get where they are coming from as for seemingly trying to upstage their cooker but it's not the intent at all. I love my kegs as well. Same as here really, I do talk about my other cookers but I really DO try to keep it to a minimal :)

I am a member of a very popular "Pellet" forum and I really have to walk on egg-shells over there. Members (not all but most) are combative and argumentative. If a "crap-storm" breaks out the moderators will actually add fuel to the flame. It has been discovered that pm's are actually viewed by admins. It is worth it for me to hang there because they do have some real good reviews and members that make the tension worth-while............pellet cooking is still in its infancy so I value the good stuff there...........
